On the song Devil Went Down to Georgia we all know the devil kicked Johnny's ass seven ways from Sunday. It was in Georgia so I'm sure whoever was a judge of that contest were biased. Bible belt indeed. This injustice can't go on any longer I mean you got the devil who's an all around badass to begin with and he even summons demons up to help perform one of the most badass fiddel recitals ever. Even if he sucked ass on the playing (which he didn't) he could have won on presentation alone come on HE SUMMONED DEMONS FROM HELL THAT COULD PLAY VARIOUS INSTRUMENTS!!! Black Sabath didn't invent heavy metal it was this guy. Then you got Johnny. obviously a novice fiddel player. I'm sure the song he was playing was picked up from some drunk hillbilly across the way, no originality at all and just plain repetitive after the first lame verse. Not to be biased, but Johnny might as well get that golden fiddel he shamelessly won from the pawn shop that he no dought sold to so he could support his 12 children and ugly toothless wife, and just give his soul to the man that truly deserves it So I beseach you. who REALLY won.
Wow that is way to long for me to read right now but I will back later when my attention span is longer.
youre right. but charlie daniels said johnny won, so johnny won the even bigger injustice is they play the edited version that says "son of a gun" rather than "son of a bitch". What about that song that goes "now youre messing with a son of a bitch" over and over and over again? The devil would have whooped his ass. You gotta see Primus' video of that song.
I have. That was the basis for my post. The video rocks, but when Les sings out of his element he really seems to suck a bit more than usual.
Death, Smite Him! anyway. Johnny won. Face it, what you hear in the song is not the Real story. just a re-enactment. The contest was for fiddle playing only, not presentation. I'm sure Johnny reeked of booze and cowshit, he would have lost on that alone had anything other than pure "fiddle ability" been judged. It's like that Tenacious D song, 'it's not the greatest song in the world... It's just a tribute'.
well i think Les Claypool Is one of the most talented musicians that have evver graced my speakers. While he might not be that special of a vocalist, his style is very unique and versatile. And his bass playing is unlike any other that will ever live. I mean to come up with those chords and beats you have to be a genius. Sometimes I have to listen to a primus song a couple times to figure out if it even has rythm at all. Its that complex.
You hit the nail on the head. I love the subject matter of his songs too. I quit listening to them for a while, but when they released the CD/DVD combo I was sucked right back in. Primus is definatly one of my top 5 bands of all time. Frizzle Fry is the soundtrack of my late teens.
