    Hi...

I was wonderign if walking around naked in your own apartment alone is nudism. I like to be nude but not infront of a million people but I do like to hang out alone nude. Is that still nudism, or do you have to be an exibishionist to be a nudist??

    Sincerely,
    Emma

    Greetings, Emma.

I guess, being nude at home and feeling comfortable nude is a point to start. The term Nudism somehow carries the connotation of something organized, such as nudist clubs and colonies, where nude people gather to do anything nude, including sports, shopping, and the like. Funny thing is, that in a lot of these organized encampments, the people aren't truly nude. They still wear shoes.
    :jester:
I prefer the term naturism for my (non-organized) nudity. It also encompasses my reason for the liking to be nude. It is the most natural state of being, and I like to feel Nature on me, when being skyclad outdoors. I avoid nudist camps and such, and like going out to lakes and forests, where non-organized naturists are known to be around. I, too, do not like the thought of being around a mass of people who are nude just 'cause their envronment such as a nude club requires it.

As for having to be an exhibitionist to be nude outdoors: no, I don't think so. Exhibitionism would entail being turned on by showing myself nude. I like feeling being nude when outdoors for the sensation of the elements of Nature being in touch with all of my body:

fire - touching my skin through the sun's warmth
water - flowing around me when swimming in the nude
air - caressing my body by a tender breeze
Earth - my feet touching Nature's (the Great Mother's) skin.

So, nudity can be a wellness and health thing, as well as something done for spiritual reasons. For me, it's a bit of all.

Naturism requiring exhibitionism would be like having a foot fetish in order to properly walk barefoot.
    :sunny:

    with a skyclad smile,

    Hi Emma,

No, nudism is about socialising nude with other people in the great outdoors. Exhibitionism is about behaving in an overt sexual manner publicly whilst naked.

They are two different things altogether.

    Best wishes,

I'd answer that with a question. Does it matter? Some people would call you a nudist, some would say that you have to be naked in company to be a nudist, but that's because people have a lot of different definitions of what nudism means. If you like taking your clothes off at home, then do it, and never mind what anyone wants to call it. If you want to talk about that, this is as good a place as any - nobody will mind that you're only naked at home.

If you ever feel the desire to be naked with others, don't worry, that doesn't make you an exhibitionist. If you take your clothes off in front of others because you want them to get a sexual thrill from it, I'd say that makes you an exhibitionist, whether you behave in a sexual manner yourself or not, but it's perfectly possible to be naked with a LOT of other people without it being sexual at all. Just do what feels right to you.

I agree, If you enjoy being naked on your own then go for it. maybe someday it will develop into something more in line with social or public nudism maybe it wont, but in the end, does it really matter? if you are comfortable doing what you do and you enjoy it then go for it and what does it matter what people would call you?

Having a shower or bath or walking between there and the bedroom isn't naturism to me. If you sit around the house naked all day then I think it is.

    A very strange question.
If not walking around at home isn't being a nudist what does one imagine it to be? It has never crossed my mind that engaging in daily activities from work to play naked doesn't constitute nudism / naturism (call it whatever). Your house is your castle and you can be, or imagine yourself to be, anything you want, and it can be real.

I'm not sure if it's necessary to label oneself this or that just because one does or does not do something.

I dress up when I mingle with the clothed society - so I guess that makes me a nudist when I'm not clothed.

An exhibitionist is certainly not a nudist, and you can be a nudist either on your own or with other people, just as you can play music on your own or with other people, but still be a musician. There is organised and non-organised nudism.

I would call myself a bit of a nudist, because I like to go about naked if it's warm enough, but usually in the privacy of my own home. It's not erotic, it's just comfortable. (I'm clothed at the moment, though.)

For a long time before I became a social nudist, I enjoyed nudity on my own at home or in the woods.

Organized nudism (sometimes called naturism) is great! They have helped create places where you can meet like-minded people, relax and not worry about being spotted by angry people, and have worked to create more tolerant laws and nude beaches.

You don't have to be a nudist to enjoy a day at a nude beach, but you would owe your freedom to nudists.

Don't worry, if you belong to any movement or ideology. Just enjoy you physical body, without any shame, while you're being alive. The way and where you do it, does not matter anybody nor has to justify angainst any criticism.

    Yours truly: Toivo
