Are you familiar with Geshe Kyaltso and the NKT? if you aren't I would recommend doing a little research, personally, I disagree with their stance on a lot of things, but I cannot and will not tell you what to believe. wikipedia has an excellent article on it here sukhe hontu
Stay away from Kadampa Buddhism, or you'll be sorry. Most people I am meeting are coming away with real issues.
Most of the Buddhist forums forbid the discussion of Kadampa. Can anyone let me know what problems people are coming away with? Is Kadampa just a scam, using Buddhism as a front to make a few bucks? Now I'm curious! Peace and love
I'd be extremely careful - same goes with all organized religions and cults. Many of them are indeed a con.
i have been unable to determine whether or not this path of buddhism is authorized so i gave the organization $4000 just to be on the safe side
It's Tibetan Buddhism with a cultish twist. They forbid anyone to practice anything Nyingma, or old school Tibetan Buddhism. They worship a Dharmapala who the Dalai Lama is very against so they are at schism with the Dalai Lama and the rest of Gelug school. They also prey on their members and make all sorts of dire pronouncements so that members who quit have nightmares for a long time. I know this from ex-members who still cannot rid themselves of fears.
