Was this guy out of line? Was it racism, or just a cranky old man?

The recording is a miserable thing to try to follow. That said, that old man hopefully will die off soon along with the kind of pathetic cowardly mentality behind him. The only reason he flipped that kid off for is the kids completion. Had a white boy or girl been walling their dog it would have been totally different I would guess. He's an old loser at the end of his life with nothing to reflect on but his own inadequacies. The kid did amazingly well in keeping his cool although it was pretty obvious that he was at the end on his patience at the end. The old fool would have had his sorry ass beaten by a less well together kid.

Yeah it was pure and simple racism or the comment about being a typical young black punk would never have been uttered. That kid was/is far from a punk, he tried to start a reasonable discourse which could have lead to a better understanding between two human beings. The old man did not have the quality or decency to even try to meet the kid. An opportunity lost for the fool.

Thats the kind of kid I'll like to know and be involved with. I know far too many of the old fools type, malcontents, losers and hate mongers without an once of joy in their miserable souls...if he even has a soul.

totally unnecessary to add "black" to it. if it was some white kid, he wouldn't say "typical punk white"..

needless to say, the guys a total idiot.

 

they were both dick heads for letting it get out of hand. though there was momentary racism, it's hard to condemn it entirely since the person being 'insulted' was looking for an excuse to be a dick - the kid wasn't offended, and instead reveled the insult as it justified further moronic behaviour.

the old man had a terrible view, but heck people are entitled to think what they like - it's a question of expressing your feelings. he likely would not have if the kid wasn't looking for a fight.

i will say this though, black teens do act 'ganster' - this way of acting is a type of subculture. they ridicule white people for acting like it, it is their act - so why is it racism to say he is acting like a black punk when the behaviour exhibited would clearly only be displayed by this ethnicity group anyways?

you can differentiate between a white punk and a black punk, basically.

most blacks are punks
or he is being a typical 'black punk'

Just as if he said, typical young punk, he could be discriminating against all youth, or he could be ascribing the person to the punk youths.

It really depends where you add the comma. I have no clue which he meant for certain.

I though it wasn't racist until he said 'typical punk black'. Of course the teen was winding up the old man, you should know that's how teens are at that age no matter what race. Wasn't there a little girl in the beginning, why would the old guy carry on and curse in front of her, thats shows he has no respect.

I don't know guys. I think it was fair enough to ask the man why he flipped him off. Remember this guy is still little more than a kid...what,... late teens maybe. I would ask somebody why they flipped me the bird. The old man could have and should have handled it better. He's supposed to be an adult.

How many of you remember being a kid and having some crazy old fool that you could easily piss off? They were fair game in my book. The ones that stopped my nonsense were the ones who talked to me in a calm rational manner. If the old man had said I was pissed because I thought you'd mess up my yard/garden maybe the kid would have listened.

I didn't get the sense that the kid was looking for trouble to start with. The old mans hate was boiling out of him and fueling the fire as I see it.

Different people gonna see it different ways. Me, I liked the kid. I wish he hadn't got physical with the old man but the old man violated the kids space. In doing so he committed a bunch of social insults and challenges.
