Is there such a thing as death? Do you see life now? Do you see death now? If you see both, then the answer must be yes, life remains after death. I personally am familiar only with life. I am unaware of a time when I did not exist. The only evidence I have for this is a story told to me about me.

for us who live , we have communion with the ancestors .
we study them , we listen for wisdom -

    and sometimes this wisdom
comes as a voice to our ear .

someday you will be an ancestor loving and praying into the future .
rather , you aleady are . we love with this life now . to love well into
all time is you as spirit .

I'm a little afraid of death, and thats why
my head spins with questions about rebirth after death..
I'm reading a book on this topic adn its giving me
alot of advice on not fearing death, or living after death..
    Thank you (tikoo).

A Zen master said there is no birth and no death...also there is a Zen koan that speaks of reincarnation. A modern Zen master wrote in a recent book that he doesn't see any spirit that lives on after a body expires, but that at some point the forces of the universe that gave rise to the first body may also give rise to another one.

In my life I see very obvious spiritual lessons, and my thought is: What good are lessons if they're lost at the moment of my death?

I don't know if there is. No one does. Thus the idea of faith.
    Pascals wager always amuses me.
He says it's better to believe in God, just in case there is an afterlife.
If you don't believe, you won't waste time going to church and stuff, but you will suffer eternal damnation (possibly)
If you do believe in God, and there is a God, you get eternal reward.

    Weak argument, but still...

i think there is a difference between genuinely believing and saying that you believe out of fear that you'll be punnished in death...IF there is a god, surely he knows who truly believes and who half assed believes because they dont wanna go to hell.

I dont believe in a god anyways, but if i did, it wouldnt be because i feared him it would be because i whole heartedly loved him and his word.

I don't know for sure and I don't think anyone can say they do know for sure.

no... i know nothing for sure, but i do have memories from what can only be previous lives, so i do have quite a strong faith that something remains after the physical body has gone... i am sure i have seen ghosts and other dimensional beings too (they certainly weren't of this world)... so maybe there are many ways of existing and sometimes it (the vibration that is creation) expresses itself by manifesting physically...

in those other lives, i wasn't who i am now, but felt like it was still me. hope that helps... :)

Yeah, see, this is one of the things that worries me. I have pretty strong faith that there is something very me-like that survives my body, especially since I have telepathic communications all the time, so I know there is a non-physical component to the physical "me." But what worries me is that even if I do get to ummm somehow live in another body, will I have any awareness of all the crap I had to go through in this body? Seems like it would give me a greater appreciation for the next life. But of course, YOU apparently have had some *glimpses* of other lives at least, so maybe there will be some sort of continuity - eventually...

What could be worse than sacrificing your life and soul while still on earth for something which may or may not (most likely scenario) be waiting for you after the final stage of it?

I came into this thread to say there are many things I don't know and don't care to but there is no way there is such a God as you mentioned. Who can actually say that there is or is not life after death? All I know is that Heaven and Hell are man-made.

Okay, let me try to splain it better. So fine, let's say you get reincarnated so "you" never cease to exist. But if "you" have no recollection of anything that ever happened to you before that reincarnation, then how does being reincarnated provide any comfort? If you have no recollection of any other life, then it's just like you're a completely different "you." No continuity - the previous "you" no longer exists, for all practical purposes. That "you" died and the consciousness and memories that body possessed are gone. If I can't remember past lives, it's not really "me" that gets reincarnated, is it? That's why I would be more comforted if I thought I would have some recollection of past lives. Is that explanation clearer?

i once thought i had a past-life recall . having explored all connections i think the basic feeling had reality but not the re-incarnation scenerio . it had to do with my willingness to engage a human problem older than me that i might work to resolve . the past-life connection was only a mode of empathy .

that problem ? is beyond what i care to write about here ... our social language accomodates it poorly .

i can describe the person of that past . she , a warrior , Nez Perce . i even went to the Nez Perce rez in Idaho just to hang out for a good month , found a bit of medicine kindness and that was ok enough . the spirit was real , and honored there .

the past-life reality i had carried there eventually seemed entirely made of circumstances swirling and that i played with their relationships in a dream=time way .
