Is there a generally held cynicism throughout the older member of hip forums?

I have certainly become very cynical about the world over the past few years anyway, and I think that is reflected in my postage.

I often detect a note of cynicism from other senior members, or a disconsolate acceptance that it's all bullshit now and there is nothing you can do about it, so you might as well just crack a few eggs and cook the omelette of sardony.

Free range eggs, of course, but eggs nonetheless.

 

Wikileaks probably isn't making you feel any better with its revelations of the utter sliminess that goes on inside political and business establishments.

Odon has a mountain of work cut out for him to try to rebuff all of the latest released information and defend such institutions.

I'm young but I'm jaded, but I don't think I'm much more bitchy now than I was back in the day. And to be fair, those of us who've been around for awhile have seen a lot of shit go down here...I wouldn't say we're cynical, just wise.

I think cynicism naive and hypocritical of our own complicity.

I'm not old, and I'm very cynical. But that's not necessarily a good thing. I have very bad attitudes sometimes... I am a very negative person. But my affinity for questioning everything is many times beneficial.

 

What some see as cynicism and negativity, others consider reality...

 

I'm not saying I'm cynical about this place, just the world in general.

Recent events in my life have pushed me over the edge well on the path to the age of Meldrew. I don't believe it!

I find myself constantly thinking that.

 

I think cynicism is a reactive response to seeing human absurdity and atrocities. A more positive response is to laugh it off or take a few deep breaths and make positive contributions where possible. I try to do the latter, but I'm sometimes guilty of the former.
