Is Suicide Just For Losers?

I know most folks think that suicide is taking the easy way out. And only a loser would actually try/do it, etc. But think about some of the awesome famous folks that have done it:

Kurt Cobain (famous rock star)
Hemingway (famous writer)
Van Gogh (famous artist)
Sylvia Plath (famous poet)
Marilyn Monroe (famous actress)
Hunter S. Thompson (awesome writer)


So are all these famous folks just a bunch of losers? I mean, maybe it is possible for somebody to be so totally depressed and everything, that the only way they know to escape from the pain is to off themselves? Why do so many of us judge suicidal folks so harshly?

Some suicides are the direct result of some kind of chemical imbalance in the brain , wether it be Bi polar or clinical depression amongst others , so to off yerself because of that is a true sad sitcho...but the cases of suicide because life has taken you to places you couldnt dream of being , or cus yr partner has left you for Tommy Lee / Jessica Alba , or cus u too lazy to work and u have debts....maybe loser is too strong a word...coward maybe , but not loser...

But don't most suicides (the ones that actually do it, and not just talk about it, etc.) suffer from some form of depression? I mean, I've heard it's never just one event that triggers a suicide. It's a chain of events. So even though it might look like some dude is offing himself cuz he lost his job or whatever, that's usually only the last straw. A lot of other crazy shit usually came first. Plus a lot of folks are good at masking their depression. So you might not even suspect it until the person has taken his/her own life. I wonder how many people actually kill themselves over only one event? So are they really just cowards after all?

Yeah, I've heard that. Plus some of the other theories: She was killed by the Kennedy family, etc. But the bottom line is this: She knew how dangerous taking so many sleeping pills was. Yet she kept on taking more and more. At the very least, I think she was feeling depressed and suicidal. Even if the overdose was an accidental one (and we'll never really know. Since there was no suicide note or anything.) Either way, it's totally tragic. She was only 36.

Suicide is for losers and the extremely desperate. I know of 1 case of suicide I agreed with. The girl had no money, her dad beat the living shit out of her, and her dad was chief of police.

 

its a personal descision. im not one to make generalizations. personally i dont agree with what those people did but who am i to say that it makes them losers?

People always want to compete and be better. why else would someone say something like "Suicide is for losers" instead why not address the issue and understand that everyone gets despressed some time or another.

I agree that people always wanna compete but, in this situaution I think it is more than that.
Of course it is all still a matter of perception most people see it as a weakness to let yourself get that depressed and I agree with them (IN MOST CASES) but not for the same reason. Most people think it is a weakness because they think life is bad for everyone. I think it is a weakness because life is all about how you live it, if you let life be bad it will be bad, I see it as a weakness because the person has a horrible view on life.

 

well its lonely, not lowly. sometimes life is what you make it. drugs and brain chemistry affect depression though. i find when i dont take Adderall i feel really depressed, theres not mcuh you can do.

I don't feel I have the right to judge others re: suicide, but I can say this:

i think most of those folks aquired thier fame/ noteriety because they were good at articulating the fellings and thoughts of a loser. and there are alot of losers that could identify with them. not to say there is anything wrong with being a loser, but suicide is just plain weak, and stupid and selfish.
i can dig some of thompsons work, some of kurts music, and some of van gohs art, but that dosent make them a strong or cool person in my mind. just a weak loser. I may have gone through some harder things in life then all of them combined, who knows, but i refuse to be weak.
