Never tried casing personally. But PF Tek has always worked fine. It's definitly a good way to learn for beginners.

Pf tek never worked for my friend.
The substrate always seemed to be packed too tight and the cakes invariably stalled, or produced tiny mushrooms. Though, I hear, some people have very good results with it.

My friend just keeps it as simple as possible and has had much better results.
Someone could just soak and simmer straight rye grain, place in [IMG] plastic container, etc etc, inoculate, birth and have a bulk cake that produces much more than a pftek.

This is, of course, assuming you live in a place where these things are legal.

The 'etc, etc' means pressure cook as per usual.
Number "5" plastics can withstand pressure cooking.
