Is the term "peck" a real derogatory term for dwarfs and midgets, little people in other words? That term is used by daikinis, or normal sized humans, to insult the nelwyns, the dwarf race, in the movie Willow.
i knew someone who'se family name is peck. he uses something else as his professional name as a musician. i forget what it is. shortness does run in his family as it does in mine, but not short enough shortness to qualify as midgitness. i saw that movie too, back when it was first in circulation. it was part of the vernacular in the context of the story line. my impression was that it was more of a racial slur against willow's humanoid species/race, then directly any sort of referance to spicificly their stature, as opposed to collective general appearance. you know, to make a convincingly alien/fantasy context like that, it needs its own colloqial nuances. that's something all good fantasy and sciffy authors do, and that's what you're seeing there. yah, to the best of my knowledge no earth human society had used such a term in that matter prior to the writing of that story. of course even just this one earth is a big and diverse place so i don't think anyone could give you an absolute definative negative. it's even possible, that dispite the almost certainly of the author's having made it up, somewhere somewhen someone, some culture or village MIGHT have. but i'm almost completely positive that it WASN'T knowingly or intentionally based on anyone anywhere having done so. =^^= .../\...
