I heard apparently marijuana is illegal because in the thirties(i think) hemp paper was becoming popular, and regualr paper companies got really pissed off at this, and then started making up lies about marijuana, saying that it's evil. And saying that the Mexicans were completely insane because of marijuana. And so the government decided to have it banned, with most countries doing the same. Is this true?

i just rented grass, and i thought it was excellent. very informative. i was unaware of the racist element behind the first anti-marijuana laws. i find it's appalling that the government continues sinking so much money into the ineffective and dangerous farce that is the drug war, particularly where pot is concerned.
Grass, I love that flick. Weird though, just watched 'The Cannabis Years' from the BBC about the history of MJ prohibition in England. Some of the same bullshit spouted against it as well. "Magic Weed: The Story of Cannabis Sativa" is a good one too, goes all the way back to the beginning and shows both industrial history and recreational. Awesome. Today two of the biggest opposition to the plant are the pharmaceutical and alchohol industries Thusly why we can see one of those anti-pot commercials followed up by an ad for Whisky followed by and ad for happy pills. I think this is fake due to that what I heard was goverment made marijuana illegal because they couldn't tax it and too many people were using it for other reson's then of medical use.

No way man, listen, the government can tax anything they like...there is nothing on this planet they cannot tax....it is simply that the government have been feeding us all this anti-marijuana bullshit for so long that they cannot just turn round now and all of a sudden legalise it, then tax it.....it would make them look like the hypocrites they are... We all know for a fact that at least for the past fifteen years the government must at some point thought "hmmm plenty of people smoke this plant, maybe we should legalise it and tax it"....think about it dudes, anything that people can make a quick and easy £ or $ out of they will....and i think eventually the government will make a complete U-turn on their cannabis laws....the question is, when?????

Anslinger had friends at dupont and probably other industries who would be hurt by a hemp industry in the US, so he used the time-tested tool of asshole politicians everywhere, propaganda. At the time there was obviously racial issues everywhere, so his friend Hearst, who was already the master of shady journalism, used the fact that whiteys hated other skin-colors to his advantage to urge people to hate (or more like fear which comes before the hate) marijuana. Anslinger and Hearst are two of my most hated mother fuckers in history. I would really love to do some scrotum kicking to those two. That was partially explained in that herer article, I just noticed...
two theories i've always digged: the gov was afraid of people expanding their minds / in the thirties they started illegalizing everything (including alcohol). they went overboard with the alcohol so the mj illegalization was less noticed.
