1. The Hipforums announces it first ever fundraiser. After nearly 30 years online, we must ask our members and guests to help support the website. Thanks to years of ongoing financial support of our members, advertisers and volunteer admin staff, we have been able to keep the forums alive.

Now we must ask for help as available funds have all been used for our Internet server and other fees.

So please donate any amount to our PayPal account donate@Hipforum.com to keep the site going. If we can get enough for a few months fees, we won't need to nag you again!

is it true that it is possible to germinate the seeds of a poppy seed bagel or the seeds in the seasoning section of the market to grow a poppy flower? and if so would it actually contain some sort of opium?> i know you can buy seeds from catalogues and such but i thought it might be cool to do this instead for shits and giggles

The seeds sold in supermarkets are processed to kill anything that may have rode in on them, you would have better luck at a food co-op that offers organic spices and herbs.

There are also places online that you can buy opium poppy seed from, it is supposed to be banned in this country but you can still find them....

Try them, or do a google search...opium poppy seeds.

I grew some years ago and even made slits in the seed pods...the milky stuff did oooze out, but I never went beyond that...beautiful flowers though.

you can go buy poppy at the wal-mart. It's illegal to process, but you are allowed to grow them(in some places) as flowers, and other places they're only allowed to be in your yard. They're considered a noxious weed. As long as no one sees you milking or planting seeds(in obvious non-garded places) you're in the clear. Also, the bagel thing won't work. the seeds are baked when they bake the bagel.

There are many different poppies, I bought iceland poppie plants at wal-mart and an Oriental poppy at my local garden center.
Papaver Somniferum (sp) is the Opium poppy.

They are ILLEGAL to grow in the U.S, Canada, and the UK.

Here is a site telling more about growing the Opium poppy:
