It was given to me by my grandmother (she didn't know it was peyote...) she was gonna throw it out but I offered to take care of it. anyhow, it's rather squishy and old looking. The root has also been improperly cut. I was wondering if theirs anything I can do to save it

If not, what can i do with it? can i still dry it at least? Help would really be appreciated :)

all i can say is, you have some material to work with ,, they could be cloned..
Try a peyote board in general.. not that someone here cant help, but a cacti specific board may..

Id get some sand and cacti mix, plant them, give it a prayer..

I would cut off the tops and graft or try to reroot the head in some proper sand/limestone/coir mix.

You might lose it if you don't act soon. If it's already squishy that's not a good sign.

Thanks! I did that and they started to harden up (I've been told thats a good sign) They should callus in a week or two. I'll reroot them then.

^That's good to hear. Cactus tend to be hardy. Yeah.

I'm sure you know, not too much water.
