One African tribe enjoys wryly summing up the human condition insisting that, "Mother Nature's love is irresistible, but she has a wicked sense of humor". If you don't both like and respect yourself, you have nothing to offer anyone else.
I kinda feel like being respected and being liked generally go hand in hand? The people I respect I also like
if they can't even take the time out of their day to despise me, then who care about their stupid feelings?
For the most part perhaps but definitely not always. Like having a guy that likes you but ignores you when you say no and doesn't take you seriously. Or having a manipulative family member. Or a friend that doesn't listen to you or doesn't return things they borrowed. As for me, i'm generally not well liked but respected for the most part. Its better that way.
i think universally mutual consideration is worth more then both of them. consideration, not fear, nor need for it. its nice to be liked too, and perhaps i don't pay enough attention to it, but it isn't the end all and be all of existence. you know i'd just like to live in a calm and dignified world where dignified did NOT mean ostentatious.
In business respected is preferred. In socialising outside of business then being liked is preferred.
yeah, i feel like gaining respect is something you have some control over, generally we all respect the same qualities. honesty, integrity, loyalty.. ability to admit fault.. but whether people like you is more random and down to their taste more than what you are like. like someone might respect you for being honest, but not like you very much for what you say with that honesty.
Feared...I don't care if you love me, but you will tremble in fear at my presence. I rule for results, not for companionship. Now bend the knee...
Of course, I have known people who were well-liked but not respected at all, so on second thought, I'd rather be respected.
