I stand corrected. Jolson died in 1950.

Based on what I've read about him, he fought against discrimination in a pre-civil rights era. And was the only white man allowed in a black night club in all of Harlem.

I actually looked him up after seeing him mentioned in this thread and it looks like he was respected by the black community. I read he was a champion for the right of blacks to vote. He also introduced jazz music to white people and essentially paved the way for black jazz musicians to become well known to a broader audience

Also read he would turn on the faucet when someone else's act was before his so the sound of running water would drown out the applause; he was so egotistical he couldnt stand to hear other people get recognition. Well, we all have our quirks

Well then, I stand corrected also. I couldn't imagine how any black person would appreciate his act. It def was an emotional response on my part. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd----HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Yeah, Al actually died in 1950. It was a different world back then. As for "Pocahontas" Warren, it's interesting that it's not the Native Americans who are making an issue of her heritage. Do we know she's "lying" about being Native American? She's originally from Oklahoma, and here I'm used to lots of Nordic looking Native Americans claiming this or that percentage of blood for various purposes. I guess if she submits a blood test to Ancestry.com or one of those other sites, we'll know for sure. That may happen after Trump releases his tax returns. She claims to be part Cherokee and Delaware , as do lots of folks I know. Like many, her claim is supposedly based on "family lore", and some are surprised when they submit their blood samples and find no Native American at all. The Cherokees did a lot of intermarrying, and one of the recent chiefs was 1/32 % Cherokee. The tribe goes by the Dawes roles, but it's not impossible that a marginal claimant could be left off. Importantly, she does not appear to have used her claim to Native American heritage for affirmative action status in academic admission nor job appointments. Is Elizabeth Warren Native American or What? Scott Brown unsuccessfully tried to make an issue of it in his senatorial campaign. If she ever runs for president (God help us), we'll see what mileage the Republicans can get out of it. I'm sure they'll try. I was talking to a guy recently who thought he was Native American and sent his DNA sample off. To his surprise, he had no Native American ancestry, but did have some Neanderthal genes, and was on the high end of that scale, as was his new daughter-in-law, so his grandkids are likely to have a double high dose. But there are no federal programs for that, and I doubt it would be an advantage running for political office. Has Trump been tested for that?

Not to be rude, but I'm pretty sure that came from a South Park episode where Randy Marsh gets a DNA test to prove he's Native American, only to find he has zero traces of native DNA. But found out he was part Neanderthal? Thereby he declared himself, as part Neanderthal, a marginalized race. Because Neanderthals were an oppressed group who suffered a genocide from white people? :joycat:

Or did you really talk to this guy?

It's likely the South park episode was based on news articles about research that paid attention to neanderthal dna being present in certain homo sapiens. I took notice of both. South parks subjects often come from curious stuff in the news. Especially when a bunch of people go act weird about it, which then also gets media attention: half of a new South park episode is born already!

What it came from was a dinner party, where--yes--I did talk to this guy. He seemed to be credible and not too tanked. I don't watch South Park.

If the republicans don't impeach Trump, he will quit in November after the libs take over control of congress.

Oh yeah-----he's showing republicans for who they are. Some are actually quitting -- their sense of decency can stand no more. What there is left of it.

    No, he isn't.

Nixon was an enormous scandal, but Reagan was in office less than a decade later. FFS in 2012 the right was all about the free market, now it's tariffs, public works and protectionism (to be fair, most of that is because their racism outweighs their interest in the economy).

FOX, Breitbart, etc... are currently doing their best to turn the FBI and CIA into enemies of the people/Hillary's hit squad/knights of the corrupt establishment while a pathological liar, narcissist and serial sexual assaulter who has sex with porn stars, was unquestionably involved in money laundering for Russian oligarchs, has mob ties and has been characterized by numerous accredited sources including people in his own party as a well-known Russian agent... is pious, oppressed and innocent.

Trump is probably the worst thing to happen to the US since 9/11.

    You're right about Trump,
Yes, Trump is the worst thing to happen to the US. But the best way to limit the damage is for Democrats to take control of Congress.

I doubt either of those things happen. If the Democrat party doesn't get its head out of its ass, connect with voters on everyday issues that resonate with the middle-class, and nominate someone who is electable (rather than someone with a ton of baggage or a left-wing nutjob) then people better get ready for 4 more years of Donald Trump. Impeaching and convicting Trump accomplishes little if anything. We would get a new president who is a fundamentalist freakshow plus millions of Trump supporters would wind up pissed off and energized for the next presidential election.

For the libs my advice is to forget about Trump and begin searching for potential (electable) candidates for the next presidential election.

It's an outrage machine Neo. If not Trumps impeachment, it'll be a War on Christmas, or some story about a white guy who gets turned down for a college.

Aversion to triggering right wing snowflakes isn't a reason not to impeach a guy who likely conspired with foreign nations to attack an American election.

It's the same thing if a kid threatens to hold their breath until they get a toy. You just let them be outraged. If it turns out all these Russia connections are just an incredible series of coincidences, then I agree with you.

Do over-the-counter DNA tests really show Neanderthal genes? My test was silent on this matter.

I imagine that genetics from European fringe areas would have more Neanderthal DNA.
    The fringes receiving less in-migration.

Trumps father is from the Herbidies Islands in Scotland, Do peoples from the Orknies and Herbidies show more Neanderthal DNA?
    wondering?

About 20 percent of the Neanderthal genome survives in modern humans of non-African ancestry. Some of it is beneficial and some detrimental, associated with susceptibility to certain diseases.

his only value is to the corporate media he keeps bashing because his outrages are a cash cow for them.
he also reminds people that having a constitution doesn't mean you can't be screwed.
