May be it's just me, but I think the news media is blowing the problem up bigger than it really is. The only threat is if you live with farm animals in 3rd world countries. Make our boarders strict to screen for this problem so that it doesn't enter our country. Problem solved.

i hope this is true - it would prove to be yet another example of how panic can spread through innacurate media coverage.

well i phoned my mom the other day who lives in the same village where all these livestock were culled, and she was in the middle of baking a chicken casserole - well, moms know best apparently

Not to be the depressing one... but I'm pretty sure that this avian flu IS kind of a big deal. The same thing happened during world war one... the virus has already mutated to be able to infect humans from birds. The next step is it could mutate to spread from human to human. That means that its not only gonna be people who come in contact with birds that will be at risk. Also, interesting to note that fifty percent of those who have been infected died. That's an insane figure. This could be huge... way bigger than the AIDS epidemic if the virus mutates to infect humans through other humans. So... my guess is that this won't be the last you hear of the bird flu.

the bird flu is spreading thru the migratory bird populations ...you cannot screen it out with border guards...

and with the amount of people who travel makes it very hard to screen people who may not show signs for 36-48 after they have been exposed...

people who live with farm animals, those mostly in china are where new flu viruses come from ...the cdc monitors what new ones pop up there and makes up the new vaccines for the year but currently more people die from the common flu every year 30ooo i think it was but the bird flu has the possiblity to be a big one thats why they are worried .....

"Bird Flu"

Do you know that 'bird flu' was discovered in Vietnam 9 years ago?

Do you know that barely 100 people have died in the whole world in all that time?

Do you know that it was the Americans who alerted us to the efficacy of the human antiviral TAMIFLU as a preventative.

Do you know that TAMIFLU barely alleviates some symptoms of the common flu?

Do you know that its efficacy against the common flu is questioned by a great part of the scientific community?

Do you know that against a SUPPOSED mutant virus such as H5N1, TAMIFLU barely alleviates the illness?

Do you know that to date Avian Flu affects birds only?

Do you know who markets TAMIFLU?

ROCHE LABORATORIES.

Do you know who bought the patent for TAMIFLU from ROCHE LABORATORIES in 1996?

GILEAD SCIENCES INC.

Do you know who was the then president of GILEAD SCIENCES INC. and remains a major shareholder?

DONALD RUMSFELD, the present Secretary of Defence of the USA.

Do you know that the base of TAMIFLU is crushed aniseed?

Do you know who controls 90% of the world's production of this tree?

ROCHE.

Do you know that sales of TAMIFLU were over $254 million in 2004 and more than $1000 million in 2005?

Do you know how many more millions ROCHE can earn in the coming months if the business of fear continues?

So the summary of the story is as follows:

Bush's friends decide that the medicine TAMIFLU is the solution for a pandemic that has not yet occurred and that has caused a hundred deaths worldwide in 9 years.

This medicine doesn't so much as cure the common flu.

In normal conditions the virus does not affect humans.

Rumsfeld sells the patent for TAMIFLU to ROCHE for which they pay him a fortune.
Roche acquires 90% of the global production of crushed aniseed, the base for the antivirus.

The governments of the entire world threaten a pandemic and then buy industrial quantities of the product from Roche.

So we end up paying for medicine while Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush do the business.

ARE WE CRAZY!!? OR ARE WE IDIOTS!!?

AT LEAST PASS THIS ON SO THAT IT CAN BE KNOWN!!!!!!!

okay, so this might be a little off, but it's something to think about. dont believe everything you read. use a little common sense and try to figure out WHY

Personally,I wouldn't worry about bird flu.The last flu pandemic to hit Europe was in 1918 when 20 million died of the 'Spanish Flu'.(Or was that the 'Spanish Fly'???:) ).

fear mongerers....lol

so i take it you do not watch what you or your children eat, look before crossing a street, not get stuck in a bad neiborhood after dark, monitor were you children are, wear your seat belt, dont run with scissors and most likely a dozen other things to prevent something from happening to you or your family....

by knowing what is going on and what could happen we might be able to prevent it ....i sorry if all of this is hard for some to take .....i guess you can keep hiding under a rock ....

and of coarse the capitalist system takes advantage of all situations.....if you want to beleive that they made it all up to sell a product ...thats up to you....

you know they warned new orleans that it had a high probablity that a hurricane could hit....but the people just did not want to beleive that it could happen....[IMG]

and yet you just posted something for us to read.....hhhmmmmm[IMG]

tho it is good to question all.....[IMG]

NOT TRUE at all... and btw... what exactly is your source on this information? How can you tell us not to believe everything we read and then CONVENIENTLY forget to put a source for your information?

hm, i should make up a thread in my forum about ways to fight viral illnesses thru nutrition. because there are things that pple can do.

you're right, cheese-wiz, it's better to be aware of what's going on, so that you can be prepared for it. it's just that i'm more of a cynic than most and i learned a long long time ago to read between the lines when it comes to government spun media based propaganda.

werd sister! I feel the same!
Government propaganda=mind control="more civil society"
blah, I don't allow myself to fall into this game. If we as a human race decided to eat better, then maybe our bodies would be able to fight off these illnesses.

if you wanna know whether bird flu is over - check this out
- you can also get to links for google maps that show the hotspots in detail and the map is updated every 1/4 hour or so
The Avian flu strikes are noted by a red square with a picture of a chicken
its a disaster news site but quite hi-tech - get the news before TV stations do

That is a really interesting site - thanks - it's quite convincing in that each square gives you an actual report on the incident.I guess theres no accounting for unreported incidents - but no-one can be that accurate.so on that basis it looks serious enough to keep an eye on anyway - presuming it is fairly accurate then you could draw an even conclusion by calibrating the dates of these events with locality.cheers bones
