I dont mind waiting for it lock up, it just seems like its making no progress! All the hair like at the lowest part of the back of my head is still just totaly unknotted. The entire rest of my ehad is mostly dreads, except for the tips and that whole section jsut wont lock up yet. I dont get it... What do you think I could do to assist. If anything....

Wow that's strange :S because the hair in my neck is the hair that locks up the fastest.. it will lock eventually, but if you want it to lock up faster, you can try backcomb or twist and rip a bit, may help?

hey i sorta had that problem as well with backcombing and here is what helped me.

I had a very good friend sit and backcomb the shit out of them. Then from there we took the ends and banded them as tight as we could. That pretty much kept the dreads in shape, but you will still get tons of fly aways.

After a while, the hair started to stay together on its own and we cut the bands out (like 2 weeks into it).

People will say your hair wont dread on its own with bands but it will.

I have no idea where you are, but if you are in the bay area of california, I would be glad to help you out.

This is day 5 for me (baby locks I know - lol) and the top layer of my hair has already started to establish itself into distinguishble locks, but the bottom layers are still just wavy and straight and hardly even tangled...argh! I'm hoping with time, this will fix itself.

wat up man, dont sweat it. it will lock up in no time. My dreads looked like shit for about a year, and i backcombed them at first. i thought my dreads would never lock up and this was ganna take forever, but then in the summer its like they finally figured out how to knot haha. took em forever, but it was worth it. so i guess u can say my story is similar to yours, in that our dreads are takin forever. well i have some good news, one day you will wake up and be like "holy shit! look at my dreads they are actually lookin like dreads!!" cuz i did that and its pretty surprising that you dont notice it until one day it hits ya.
    - my tips still arnt fully knotted, and ive had my dreads for a year and half almost haha PATIENCE
    peace brotha

Plus, I've found that as my dreads have tightened over the years and established more, I've grown to really appreciate those undreaded frizzies all the more!:D Most of my hair has always been uber-curly and frizzy and nappy, except for the rim. Now the whole this is pretty tight these days, but all around the edge of my hairline (front, sides, and at the nape of my neck), I have these baby-soft curls that don't want to dread. I love 'em! My little curly-cues. :)

Man, if you were closer to me Henry, I'd help ya out too. I'm in the same stage as you are... goin about five to six months in.. Any hair from the ear down isn't going as easily.

Though, I was in a car accident and I think the blood made it tighten. I just don't want to get rid of my dreads. :( I'm not gonna do it. They tried to give me reckless driving because I fell asleep at the wheel (I was not under the influence of anything at that time) around midnight, while doing a friend a favor and taking his girl home, since he called me and said she was stuck without a ride just down the street from where I was, and needed to get home. Took her home, was on my way back northbound on highway 17 blacked out, and hit trees. Next thing you know I'm in a hospital with my head split open, drenched in blood.

But I'm getting an attorney... because I may have a sleeping disorder and I have to go the the medical college of VA to get more tests. It's not diagnosed yet.

I don't want to have to get rid of my dreads... if I plead guilty, I may have to get rid of the dreads, yet that doesn't mean that that'll change a reckless driving sentence, so I don't really care.

Wow, Orsino, that's pretty intense. Are you having tests done at UVA?

As for my dreads, I'm frustrated too at times. Today was a bad one. I'm wondering if my best bet would be to comb them out and start over. The only reason I think that is because I originally backcombed them, but made the sections too small. Most of the backcombed ones came out, but some are locked up pretty well and are MEGA small, I mean, there's some that are maybe half an inch and the rest are quarter inch thick. Super super thin dreads, I can probably count the hairs in them :( And on top of that, a large portion of my hair is undreaded as can be. So it's like itsy bitsy dreads, and then straight hair hiding them. It's really not very cool. On a happy note, I have a natural in the back that's a wonderful size. I just am frustrated mostly with the backcombed ones and wish I had gone natural... soo should I try this again ALL-natural or let the backcombed ones continue to do their little tiny thing and hope for the best? Opinons.. advice?

are you in california as well?? where are you at

I hope you are ok, but still if you have a sleeping disorder, myabe you shouldnt be driving?

I mean even if you are diagnosed, it is still an issue if you randomly fall asleep ya know.

Idk just hope you are ok, and what car do you drive again?! =P
