I bought some iron-on transfer paper that you print out from your computer, and I'm ready to commence my t-shirt design piracy extravaganza.
Any tips/warnings before I go out and ruin a bunch of shirts?
    Prior experiences?
    Any and all advice welcome.

    i'm doing the same thing!
what i do is iron on the transfer onto a piece of white cloth, then cut that out and sew it onto the thing i want it on.
oh, and from my experience: REMEMBER TO MIRROR THE IMAGE BEFORE YOU PRINT IT! lol my sister has so many backwards tee shirts :)

^^ does that work better than just transferring it directly onto the shirt?

ergg.... i don't wanna introduce sewing into this, lest i screw up even more.
but YES, i was just thinking i would have to chant 'reverse' to myself or i would forget. :)

do you know if the colors are still good if used on a cream or light gray fabric?
(i know it's ok to use on these, but wondered if the color would be as clear)

yea, cream or light gray would probably be ok, but maybe not as clear.
the fabric idea is one i use if i want to put something on denim or dark fabric, because denim will actually make the transfer peel off after a while.

ok, everybody, i totally blew it...

my transfers came out fantastic, but when i put them in the wash (cold), i forgot to turn them inside out, and they came out all cracked and sad.
is this the only thing i did wrong?
ifi can remember to wash them inside out next time, will it work?
    grrr....
