An army official in Tehran says that the soldiers were kidnapped on purpose, in order to exchange them for 5 Irani officers who were abducted in Iraq. First completely obvious act of aggression by Iran? Your thoughts?
america and britain invaded iraq on the pretext of WMD's that did not exist. if they had not invaded on false pretext then they wouldn't be in the situation they are in now. iran is now only playing the same game of hostage taking as america and britain, what goes around comes around. iraq is the second war they've started without thinking about it much. iran will be the third war.
The US and Iran have been more or less in a proxy war for some time now. Remember the 2006 Israeli-Lebanon conflict? Not to mention allegations of Iran's supplying Iraqi militants with weapons that led to aircraft carriers being parked in the gulf. All we can hope for is that Bush and Ahmedinejad (tried my best on the spelling) can keep from escalating this to a great degree, as there is great potential for the US to be drawn into another war that it can't afford.
Israeli news. (www.walla.co.il also reported on Maariv and the Jerusalem Post)... Israeli news is rather prompt with Middle Eastern issues, and the Mossad knows their shit.
Uhhum, that's why I didn't post a source to begin with, I figured it would leak to the mass media, but apparently they are keeping it silent. Same thing even with 9/11. The Israeli websites reported it right away, while all the big name media waited at least a couple of extra minutes. The Israeli media is awfully efficient... probably because practically every global turmoil affects Israel directly.
A similar incident happened a few years ago. The detained British were forced to apologize. The political figures in Iran get some public consumption out of it. .
I doubt they will be given any oportunity to apologize today. That would go against the agenda. Rather the people pushing the agenda would love to force another war on the world. Afterall Blair is still in office and still following Bush's lead. I guess that's all a "poodle" can do. I imagine he and his ilk will be well groomed and cared for "poodles" while the rest of us bury our puppies and pay more for our kibble in the future.
The frustration is really showing at Fox News. Every time I pass that channel by, Old Riley is on their complaining about how the 'success' in Iraq is being misinterpreted by the public as failure and how the 'pinhead' dissenters in the public are bringing down the U.S. One of the Republicans from the Congress was on Meet The Press a few weeks ago and claiming that it was good to create the mess in Iraq because it attracted al Qaeda which allows us to fight them out in the open. Things have gotten this desperate. .
Fox would have loved to see us fall into a bigger Lebanese type debacle. I really do think the rest of the world is finally awaking and resisting. I hope we can keep it up.
I think for the American public is the bigger issue of how much is this going to cost me. This war has been expensive and to expand it would even be more so. Perhaps it is the captalist mentality that is putting the brakes on...I doubt it but hey I am tired of what we are spending now, and proposing to spend in the futue. If that's the marketing tool that will win the day I say use it!
The neo cons and republicans have always approached public opinion with this will save you money....why shouldn't the peacenicks?
Yeah they have the agenda in place, they are just looking for an excuse. And Blair will bark his head off to protect his future position. Someone ask him what this different phase will cost....PLEASE! It's not going to be cheap.
Are fifteen soldiers/sailors worth billions down the road? Bechtel and Haliburton will be pleased I am sure. Let's not try to negotiate, let's pour billions down the drain! The US and Saudi Oil companies will be pleased because they won't be out any expense but they will reap the greatest rewards. We are told 3000 lost soldiers is a reasonable number, so 15 is something we should risk world stability for, even though we know they are safe and well cared for? How many thousands of innocent civilians will be lost under a new "Shock and Awe"?
My feeling is those sailors signed on and received pay for being in a hazardous area. They can cool their heels in Iranian detainment. Until the situation can be handled in a peaceful manner. Their lives are no more important than those of hundreds of thousands of innocents they may become collateral statistics if this is blown out of proportion. But of course precision strikes...we spend millions to take just a handful like we did in Iraq...if you believe that you are just DUMB!
I am just surprised Iran is provoking right now. They probably just figure us all to be the pussies some want us to be. I am not British but I think that is an open act of war. Of coarse for me Iran coming out and saying they are our enemy is enough to make them one. I will take their word for it.
I don't think Iran is provoking that is why I feel those sailors were ordered into disputed waters in order to provoke an out right war. I can't believe no one has satelite confirmation of where exactly the exchange took place.
I think it's terrible Iran took those soldiers...and they should be returned. But at the same time, I see US and British navy hovering over Iran, waiting for any pretext they can to invade. We need to make sure this isn't used as a provacation to start a war. The last thing we need...im sure we would both agree...is another war.
