So I got this idea... I'm in summer school, bored off my ass, and pretty much all alone in a tiny little room that is honestly smaller than my car. I wish I was joking. I've been in prison cells are bigger than this blue-walled hell hole, so fitting my guitar... let alone my organ, in this glorified broom closet is already asking too much... With this being my currently pathetic situation, I thought "Hey, when life gives you lemons... who the hell says you gotta make lemonade? Fuck that shit, I'll throw those bitches back in life's face!" Anyways... Here's my idea: I'm sick of being alone here, and I want to do something amazing... monumental.... INSPIRING!!! I'm 21 years old... I've got my whole life ahead of me, and I want to look back one day and realize that I fucking did something good for the world in this age of evangelical crusades and spun-out press. So, let's all get together... here, in Clinton, SC, and let's have a "Freedom-Fest" along the same lines as Woodstock, but made for the eclectic and under-represented folk, blues, and all other "progressive" musicians who still thrive here in our nation. Our artistic value has been diminished for far too long, and we have been ignored by the press and mainstream media in exchange for a pop culture that has been shoved down our throats and enforced with the penalty of being cast into a plethora of individuals who are regarded as "social delinquents" - for lack of a better way of saying this. So, instead of allowing our very essence... our worth, and our lives to be determined by a pool of financially and politically elite individuals, let's take a stand and come together in order to show that the pulse of THIS generation of artists, dreamers, and inspiring musicians is INDEED thumping below the surface of "popular culture." Let's show that both our collective and individual integrity, value, and right to disagree with our government go far deeper than any pop-culture media network can possibly "spin" for their own advantage. Damnit, let's take control of our destiny, and let's take control of our freedom! Did the French country-folk not rise up and assert themselves when they found themselves in a similar situation? Did our forefathers not boldly sieze their liberty from the oppressive and manipulative government of their time? This, my friends is OUR time! It's time to pay our dues on the ticket of freedom that we're told we are riding on! It's time to end the stagnation of the present and insure the progression of tomorrow! IT'S TIME FOR US TO LIVE!!!!! So, are you in? Would you be willing to take the risk of throwing everything up in the air in hopes of a peaceful catalyst for progressive change? Give me a holler if you're interested...
Umm... how bout instead of getting together and singing about love and stuff you go out and start sniping defense contractors and blowing up chemical plants... you might actually accomplish something then.... (note i am in no way advocating the death of people or destruction of property, all information is for novelty purposes, i hope to god those weren't thought crimes)
Wow.... your guys have such outstanding wit. What the hell was I thinking? I guess I was just trying to give you all something to play with and make fun of... who knows... Either way, you guys sound like you have huge penises by the way you all "talk the talk" so I'll just humbly move along, in awe of how cool you guys are.... *Note to self: make sure that all of thier future babies look like me. They deserve it...
Off topic: Where the hell is there a college in Clinton?!? Your problem is that you are stuck in a little dirt-ass town. I broke down in Clinton once. It pretty much sucked. I ended up getting a ride back home (Spartanburg) with some guys passing thru to Greenville. Actually, if you're still in SC later this year @ August or Sept., Spartanburg is trying to form an Arts and Music festival. We have a nice growing art/music community up here and it's getting pretty cool. And it's only 30-45 min from you.
hey good post , i really liked that and understand where you are coming from. you sound like you know your stuff. you should check out steal this movie, think you would really dig on it. moved the hell out of me when i saw it, really really well put together, real peace of art and it really just captivates and captures you in it all, sorda sends chills down your spine. its really really inspiring though.
Hey man that sounds like a great idea. Ive been thinking about doing the same thing here in arkansas, i think it would be awesome. We really need to stop talking about how great the sixties were and talk how awesome tommorow gonna be.
Ummm.... Woodstock didn't do anything. And no matter how hard you try sitting around listening to music is NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING ONE GOD DAMNED BIT! (sorry for the caps)
I support you 100%. This is something that needs to be done. I've just been waiting for the right person to go and try to make it happen.
I hear you man. I wouldn't freak out too much at some of the responses or lack of thereof. In the spirit of your post you are in tune to what we need, unfortunately it is human nature not to react extremely until something extreme happens. This does not mean that you can't get a movement started. Continue to seek out like minds one at a time. You have to have a plan and be organized. Yeah, it will require good old fashioned hard work, but that will seperate out the pretenders. I was born in 1963. I was really too young to participate in the 60's movement, though being a teenager in the 70's I experienced the aftermath of that decade. Once Reagan took office in 1981 it was like hitting a brick wall. Since then a lot of the good things that the 60's gave us have been slowly been erroded away by the government via apathy on the part of the people. It doesn't matter what side of the aisle a politician stands on, they only care about one thing in the end and that is themselves. We have to make them clearly understand that, "We the People", are the United States, not the government. So if we want change it has to come from us. I feel isolatated myself, somewhat like a college student away from home. I am from Colorado, but due to circumstances I now live in Pennsylvania. The few people I know here my age are so systematized that for them to get involved in something like what we are talking about would be way too risky to their personal wealth as well would cause them to lose lots of friends and family. That aside, I have 4 young children that I am very concerned with. I am concerned with how they think. I am concerned with how they veiw the world. I have the responsibility to teach them that truth is more important than trying to make a buck, yet they have to survive somehow. What a dilema. In order to do this I need the help of others. I can't do this all by myself either. We need the fellowship and encouragement of eachother. It still needs a basic vision and basic organization to be successful though.
I totally agree with lostblack dog. Its a great idea. And its true,....we need to get off our asses and do something.
oh, such a cynical age we live in. take a young guy with a ton of enthusiasm and probably lots of talent to boot and then piss all over him. we havn't heard from u for a few days since u first posted lostblackdog. i hope u weren't too effected by the initial negative reaction to ur marvellous idea. i agee with all that jazz says. i think the posts that follow give a clearer indication of how other people actually feel about it. i'd go with them. u'll find u have allies and whatever ur detractors say can only make u stronger 4 it i hope. good luck with ur dreams and plans.
I think it's a really cool idea, don't pay attention to the assholes, they just like to piss people off.
You're right, I hadn't noticed the age at first, but I looked at it after I made the post and then I felt bad
