Hi, I dont really know if I am a hippy or not. I live on an organic farm, but that is because my boyfriends parents are sort of hippyish. I have 8 decks of tarot cards. I like travelling and photography and painting. I would like to do more travelling in the future but lack money at the moment. I am kind of a loner. Anyway, I thought these boards looked interesting, so i thought i would join up. i am pretty open minded. well a lot more than I used to be, anyway. C ~ :coffee:
Hi and welcome to hip forums! There are a lot of different forums on here, so have a look about as I am sure you will find many you enjoy!
Sounds like maybe you're more the kind of hippie who has dirt under her fingernails, rather than the kind who wonders which fingernail polish goes best with her GAP tie dye.
How lucky are you to live on an organic farm! It takes alot of work, but the rewards are unlimited. What has been your favorite travel destination so far?
Thanks wild-flowers and hillbillyHippyChick. Yes I am lucky. I have been here for 2 months- it is my boyfriend's family home, where he grew up. He is a farm boy whereas I was brought up in the suburbs. It is very interesting as they use biodynamic methods of farming. They raise deer, sheep, and milking goats and also grow some flowers and vegetables. My favourite travel destination is Greece- so beautiful. But I loved many parts of Europe too... I have been working in the gardens and stacking firewood! Yes have had dirt under my nails and coming off me in big clouds... right now I am working indoors though, it has been icy outside. I went through a Buddhist phase a few years ago. I am still iinto Meditation and yoga, but I dont think I am as Zen as I was hoping to become back then. Also I realised that there is somethng that stops me from becoming a proper Buddhist- I believe in God, and people online told me I couldnt believe in god and be a Buddhist. That would be pretty handy... but no, I dont have that.
first of all welcome and second of all as to people telling u that you couldnt be a proper buddhist because u believe in god. Buddhism is not a religion it is simply a tradition, a way to live on this earth. I'm pretty sure you can be a Buddhist and believe in god. don't quote me but ill ask thich nhat hanh wen i hopefully see him in a month or so. he stresses soooo much that it is not a religion so what those people told you wouldn't make sense. it's simply a state of being in which u are aware of everything that is around you and using that awareness to better the world. it goes deeper than that lol but that's it in a nut shell to my understanding.
Hippified RCer, I would love to hear what Thich nhat hanh would say on the topic. the Buddhists I met said to me that I couldnt believe in God, Im not sure whether they were right or not... I kind of concluded then and there that it is a religion not suited to theists.
hilbillyhippychick, i wanted to reply to your Visitor message but I cant, I dont think I am allowed to until I get to 100 posts. But in answer to your question, I have been using this username since 2005... I was reading up a lot about Zen, meditation, Buddhism, and a lot of other stuff then... in recent years i sort of went off it but recently I am becoming interested again.
Oh cool. I suppose you just have to believe what you believe and not let others tell you the 'rules' so much. I mean, you can still take some principles of Buddhism that influence you. If you wanted to of course
