Just curious what kind of people frequently hang out in this Hindu forum thread. I think most here are ISKON followers from the U.S? What attracts you to Hinduism?
Hello Ladylocks. I am not an ISKCON follower but yes (for better or worse) I am from the US. What's the attraction to Hinduism? I can only speak for myself in saying...that it just makes sense to me...its something that clicks with me deep inside...that made my Catholic upbringing finally click inside as well....and its truly a beautiful form of spirituality and a beautiful philosophy ...and it has opened my eyes and my heart to so many things...and I thank the Lord everyday for directing my path in such a way...even when it gets tough and slow going. But that is just me...but I hope it answered your question a bit.... though I know not what sort of answer you were looking for.... *peace and love* Nicole
Hi - I'm neither an American nor an ISKCON follower. In fact, you're not quite correct in assuming most here are ISKCON people, or sympathizers. ISKCON have come in for critcism in many threads here. On the other hand, I don't completely reject Prabhupada's books either, as I feel they are a useful intro to Sanatana Dharma for people born in the west. They give a fairly good basic outline of Vaishnavism, and present material which it is not so easy to access otherwise. Myself I'm more interested in other teachings such as those of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Aurobindo and other 'hindu rennaissance' figures.
i'm not an iskcon follower... i'm an avatara... are you familar with the term as a young child, while other kids were riding around on bicycles, i was wanting to attach my wagon to the back of their bicycle and get pulled around from these and other signs, i knew i was not of the western hemisphere but of india later on when in growing older and learning of father's service in india as part of viceroy montbatten's flight crew, i asked my dad if he recieved a blessing from a holy man to be his child? my dad said the only blessings he ever recieved were from the prostitutes so that is who i am... i am the incarnation of the blessings of the prostitutes of india
Longtime follower of Srila Prabhupada here, how that includes ISKCON is an ongoing internal debate. Actively curious about past and present Vaisnava saints and practitioners and aspects and history of Vaisnavism. Liberal spiritual attitude regarding other paths, teachers, etc. Nothing else of particular note, see bio.
I am not a follower of ISKCON, but I am American and I do love Krishna. My attraction to Hinduism was a purley intuitive thing, although it took much trial and error to finally get me here. I am a practitioner of Bhakti, in the name of Sri Krishna and teachers such as Sri Buddha, Sri Sankara, and Sri Ramakrishna. Most of my faith in Hinduism lies in the doctrine of 'non-dualism'.
i'm like you, i put alot of my faith in non-dualism but just in case that isn't the way, i spread my faith around everywhere from christianity to vaisnava bhakti to prakrta sahaja to buddhism... one of them has to be the correct path so i sure i'll end up getting saved
Hi I am "Jedi"- you can guess that this is not my real name... heh, Anyway, I am a pseudo American, In that- I am an Indian who came to America as a kid and now grew up (half of my life) in America and I am turning more and more into an "ABCD", American Born Confused Desi... yea so I stick to Hinduism like glue because it has taken me through some of very tough times of my life and pulls me through the aparent confusions of daily life today. In short, we all have our truths (or ways to our truths) and Hinduism is that for me.
to make this introduction more personal, i think we should say whether we are dog or cat people... i like both
I like them both, but in a practical sense dogs are noisy, messy, and too much trouble. We have 3 cats.
"There's dog people, there's cat people, and than there's catdog people." Thats a quote by my girlfriend, don't ask me to explain. I fall into the catdog category. I own three dogs, and they all act like cats. Wouldn't want them any other way.
I like cats...I'm not really a dog person I must say...the little ones are cute...but for some reason I like cats...and as far as the record goes...there's not a cat I've met that didn't like me. hehehe
I prefer cats, but I don't have one these days. I couldn't cope with a dog, it would need too much attention.
Its ok...I used to be afraid of dogs when I was little...I'm still not to keen on the ones that are bigger than me on their hind legs...
hahaha.. But the part about your fathers cool..... Mountbatten occupied an important role in India's history.... Your dad helped make history down here...
