i know this is unrelated to this forum but i have noone else to ask really. so im trying to get a retail job for the first time and based on my past i cant think of anything decent to say if they ask. been looking on the net for the past 30mins but nothing lol here's what i have so far: shy quiet procrastinate ok, obviously i can't say that to the person if i'm trying to get a retail job lol but you get the idea. do you guys have any suggestions? i'd love to get into retail it's just being a hermit for so long maybe i'm not ready for it yet?
Act like you are a people person. Make eye contact with the person conducting the interview. Knowledge about what products you will be dealing with is a plus. If you have great product knowledge that could win you some points. Do not just answer the questions, have a conversation with the person conducting the interview. ...Shy and quiet and not traits that work well in retail. What are you going to be selling?
Agreed with the post above -- retail managers are looking for a motivated extrovert! Even if that's not your personality, act like it is. My answer is always "sometimes I need to listen to directions more carefully" or something vague and not too seriously damaging to your chances. Good luck!
act like im a people person and make eye contact, yeah i have that down. i know shy and quiet don't work in retail which is why i'm asking for help hehe and i would be selling clothing. i just need something simple/generic that can get me past this question. although the more i think about it, i doubt i'll be working retail anytime soon in the state im at but that's ok.
Smile allot and act like you are really into the clothes they sell. Tell them when you go shopping that you like outgoing friendly salespeople (they will probably ask you a question that will lead you to saying that). Maybe retail is not the job for you...if you are that quiet and shy you may not be very happy dealing with the public. I know some clothing stores, like Banana Republic, have shipping receiving jobs where you work "behind the scenes" and do not have to deal with people as much.
yeah just trying to do something different, learn new things in the path to eventually find a career and what not.
