This is something I have recently begun doing to lose the remaining fat from my abs while at the same time gaining muscle mass. There are two ways to go about intermittent fasting. Most who do IF prefer to fast daily for 16 hours. Basically, what this means is that they eat their last meal sometime in the evening (usually around dinner time), then they fast for the next 16 hours. So basically they skip breakfast the following day, then eat their first meal of that day sometime around noon or thereafter, with their last meal in the evening hours (or at least three hours before going to bed). The window of eating is limited to around 7-8 hours daily. Because of my schedule, I find it hard to do this, and it would require eating soon before going to bed, which I feel would defeat the whole purpose of the fasting. So what I am doing is once per week intermittent fasting, which is a 24 hour fast. The day before (always my workout days), I load up on protein and healthy fats, eating my last meal in the evening before I go to work. I then come home the following morning, don't eat breakfast, go to bed, then eat again when I wake up in the evening, approximately 24 hours after my last meal. Many mainstream health experts claim that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that it's best to eat several small meals throughout the course of the day. However, some of the newest studies show that this might not be the best advice for people really looking to effectively burn off their fat stores, since you're not going to optimally burn off fat by replenishing your glycogen levels every few hours. Not only is intermittent fasting great for burning fat, but it is also a great way to detoxify your body, especially with the 24 hour fast. Is anyone here familiar with intermittent fasting, or do you practice it yourself or know somebody that does?
I do it, but not intentionally. My neighbor took me out to an italian place where his gf works last night around 8 for fixing their car. I ate a shit ton of food. I probably won't eat today until dinner, I still feel full.
I'm with deviate. It happens unintentionally for me. Usually on days off or when my shifts are in the evening. If I have to be up and expending much energy in the morning, I gotta have me a good dose of protein or I just don't function.
Your best bet is just lower your daily caloric intake to a level below what is recomended for your height and stuff. I always thought that fasting, especially the way you suggest, would actually cause the body to store more fat in anticipation of not getting another meal soon. That is why eating several small meals works best in the long run, your body doesn't need to store up fat because there is a constant food supply. I say just lower your overall daily intake, I think it will be more effective than fasting. I cut my daily intake down to less than half what it was before and I've gone from 293 lbs 10 months ago to about 215, and still losing.
I don't really agree with the whole calories in/calories out approach. It worked during my initial weight loss, but it really depends a lot more on the types of calories you're consuming.
Nox: Lengthy fasting does cause fat storage but like Rat, I've seen the studies that have been coming out in the past while and the evidence for short-term fasting is, at the very least an interesting read. To be fair: I'm not sure how peer reviewed the studies are because it wasn't something I cared about enough about to do due diligence.
A fast generally lasts longer than a meal, but I don't know exactly at which point the worry starts; during the fast or during the meal. It is kinda like the chicken and egg question (no food pun intended).
I meant about the kind of intermittent fasts for about 16 hours each day. Once you're a bit used to it you don't have to worry about food a lot of the time, right.
I do this unintentionally, I mainly only eat one meal a day and just snack on raw veg (usually carrots, red peppers) or fruit if I feel hungry. I have a very low appetite though and thats caused some problems in the past, but I am able to not fall into bad habits anymore. I had an ED for many years.
Apparently, I can reason, but my grammar is out the fucking window today. I've been avoiding coffee today. I may have to remedy that.
