I have insomnia is there anyway to treat this without pills? I will not go to a doctor but it's getting really bad. I sleep about 4 hours a night and i'm just always so tired.
There is this herbal medican called Melatonin, its pills though. Its a timed rlease pill I guess, Im not sure im just reading this off the bottle. This is what it says on the back. Recommended Use or purpose: Helps regulate circadian rythms (i don't know what that is) and improves sleep quaility related to sleep disorders & jet lag It says for sleeping disorders to take 1-5 tablets dail. For best results take 2 hours before bed time. Now heres my own personal warning. I took 2 of these tablets at 11:30 at night I didn't wake up for 2 days...only to pee and call my mom and tell her I couldn't get up. So if you do end up taking these you might want to take 1. Or try gravol, that helps me too sleep. But again I know you said you don;t want to take pills but its all Natural and the company is called Natures Harmony. I hope you find something that will work for you, its hell not being able to sleep, I know. Good luck, and honestly if it gets really bad you should see a doctor
You could try valerian. You can get the capsules at a health food store. just follow the directions on the bottle. You could take it in tea form. Some people don't like valerian because of the smell. Melatonin also comes in sublingual tablets ( you put them under your tongue). But the best way to regulate you circadian rhythm ( daily sleep wake cycle) is to also expose yourself to natural light in the mornings to help your brain readjust. I had a teacher once who also said getting up each morning to watch the sunrise and watching it set in the evening can also reset some people's internal clocks. I would avoid over the counter sleep aids as all these are is diphenyhydramine (aka benadryl) and can make you very dry. I have had insmonia off and on for years and I find the valerian really works for me.
I was diagnosed with severe depression in December(that's a shocker eh?) and one of my side effects is insomnia. I rarely go to bed before 4 am and I always wake up when my kids do, so I get about 4 hours a night of sleep. We were able to trace my illness back 5 years! It started with a nasty case of PPD that I just ignored and it snowballed. It nearly killed me. I know you want to avoid a doctor, but what if you are suffering a physical symptom of depression? I would never want someone else to experience what I did. Please exhaust all possibilities. You have nothing and everything to lose.
Yeah my sis said Valerian kicked ass for her sleepless nights. And she wasn't groggy the next morning either.
warm milk with honey really helps chamomile tea with honey can help too, if you can't stand warm milk... but warm milk really is the best for it Dont' do anything in your bed except sleep. Seriously, don't read in it, dont' watch tv, don't crochet meditate talk to yourself, whatever. JUST SLEEP in your bed. Heck, if you can avoid doing anything in your room for a while except for sleeping that's probably best. Try soothing music, sometimes taht can help distract your mind. I find I get too caught up in planning/thinking sometimes that it's hard for me to fall asleep, so if I put on some music or the tv very softly, so that it's almost white noise, it helps distract my brain and let me fall asleep
louise hay says insomnia is caused by fear. not trusting the process of life. guilt. then she gives a new thought process or mantra to help replace the old thought processes: I lovingly release the day and slip into peaceful sleep, knowing tomorrow will take care of itself. and on that note, i bid you all adieu and sweet dreams.
I had heard a long time ago that alcohol is no good for sleep. It disrupts the cycle. Valerian root is nice, I hear melatonin works well. People already posted those. Chamomile helps me relax. I buy the flowers, & crush them, as it's stronger than pre-packaged teas. It isn't enough to get me to crash though. I find the best thing for sleeping is getting laid, & having a clear conscience.
