This is just another example of theoretical silliness going on within the physics community, and how even stupidity will inevitably lead you to answers if you bang you head against the wall enough times, because you will knock yourself unconscious if nothing else. Quantum Mechanics are currently formulated in six dimensions for most practical purposes, but the evidence and mathematics imply they require either 8 dimensions and a singularity or 26 to an infinite number of dimensions. They've already developed an 8 dimensional model that everyone got excited about until it totally flopped, and now they are turning to infinite dimensional ones involving mathematics even the mathematicians are only now developing.

Waxing poetically about infinity, an infinity here, an infinity there, and pretty soon you're talking at least three PBS specials I figure, while a series of Sting theories have been discovered which suggest an ever larger, beyond the astronomical, number of String theories can explain everything even more compellingly. This is the state of modern theoretical physics today which has not made significant progress in half a century, while the experimentalists have been building the most enormous and complex machines just to make the slightest progress.

The Monstrous Moonshine Conjecture has already established a way to prove that, if infinity doesn't exist in the world around us, it might as well exist for all practical purposes. In other words, they are about to prove Newton's calculus applies to the real world, but not in the way people originally thought it did. In quantum mechanics, even a dimension has no demonstrable meaning without a specific context, and fuzzy logic applying to the world all around us has brought the whole idea of a dimension into question with fractional dimensions. A dimension is for all demonstrable purposes, the indivisible complimentary-opposite of a singularity, yin and yang, and until they develop the mathematics they will keep playing with the numbers.

Yeah, it has to do with the umbra and penumbra of shadows. In a universe where infinity doesn't exist, what's missing from this picture manifests differently. My own belief is the forces of nature can be thought of as information from the future normalizing the random chaos of the past, by manifesting as energy. You could say all the knowledge of every possible past and future already exist in some sense, in parallel worlds, but our choices in the present decide how fated our futures become. If you jump off the Empire State, for all practical purposes, you have sealed your fate, and the forces of nature are instant karma, working its magic to ensure everything works out for the universe as a whole, if not Goldilocks herself, while ensuring God can play peek-a-boo in every way imaginable and more.

Not the moonshine I'm thinking about.

The university of Warsaw graduates more scientists than the 3 top American universities combined.

It was probably the most fictitious statement I've ever typed on HF. :p

Funny if it was true though.

The truth is, China graduates 400,000 engineers every year to the 40,000 in the US, where banking and medicine have replaced any interest in the sciences, because the US imports all the scientists, computer programmers, etc. that it wants from around the world. All roads lead to Rome, and many of our best scientists today are from countries that support higher education much more than the US, because there's no money in promoting the sciences in a country where there are few jobs in the sciences available to citizens and higher education is not highly valued.

Money talks, and all the academic bullshit walks. A friend of mine got divorced, because his wife could not stand him making more money than her with a Phd, buying used cars and fixing them up. Its the all or nothing economy where bullshit is king.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Chinese are smarter than Americans.

Its really just their language and child rearing approaches and, like Americans, their own culture encourages them to be as stupid as you can imagine. Asians can be the most flaky and conservative people imaginable and their culture encourages them all to think too much alike for their own good, just as ours encourages us to fight among ourselves too much for our own good.

We'll see how far it gets them, because soon enough even chemistry will become another branch of engineering that can be automated. They've pretty much figured out all the basics of how engineers and chemists and doctors work, and are prepared to replace them all. There is now an epidemic of doctors in the US working themselves to exhaustion, while their hospitals work to replace them with much more accurate and cheap AI and, of course, offers them stock options.

Yeah, you could replace them easy. Would also save a lot of money for the economy.

Imagine a world where you could just see the specialist you required without paying money for a referral from a doctor that can't help you or affording Medicine at a reasonable rate without having to make the branded store a profit.
