For the past several months, my boyfriend and I have been trying to concieve. I chalk our lack of success up to my Polycystic-Ovarian Syndrome. My gynocologist assured me that the issue was only a mild factor, however, the closest I have come is a false-positive test read. I am well aware of the statement, "When you stop trying, it will happen." Before consulting with an Infertility specialist, can anyone else offer any advice?
Have you read Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility? If not, get a copy and read it cover to cover before doing anything else. Learn how to chart your cycles, make sure you are ovulating. If you aren't ovulating, then you have something to work with a reproductive endocrinologist with. Many women with PCOS can take metformin and that allows them to release eggs and become pregnant, some need more drastic measures. And remember, on any given cycle, you have about 20% chance of a fertilized egg actually implanting in your uterus. Most women try for about 6 months before being successful, without any complicating factors like PCOS or endo.
Good luck! Have your cycles been pretty regular? Keep track of the changes in your cervical mucus (yes you have to touch it). Wet and slippery is conducive for sperm swimming through... Dry, thick and stick acts more as a barrier. Our bodies make thinner mucus during ovulation usually.
PCOS didn't stop my pregnancy... I equate my better eating habits and lifestyle with the conception. I went from eating hardly anything at all and living off of sodas or juices to eating mostly organics and lots of veggies and TONS of water...and all of a sudden I was pregnant.
