1. The Hipforums announces it first ever fundraiser. After nearly 30 years online, we must ask our members and guests to help support the website. Thanks to years of ongoing financial support of our members, advertisers and volunteer admin staff, we have been able to keep the forums alive.

Now we must ask for help as available funds have all been used for our Internet server and other fees.

So please donate any amount to our PayPal account donate@Hipforum.com to keep the site going. If we can get enough for a few months fees, we won't need to nag you again!

My boyfriend recently had his tattoo retouched

now its weeping pus and his arm is swollen as well as swelling under his arm and chest

He went to the doc and they said it was an allergy, but its not getting bettter and the swelling is getting worse

I told him to go to emergency... am I over reacting?

Get a second opinion when doctor's surgeries open in the morning. If his skin becomes heavily discoloured, the swelling continues to get rapidly worse, or if the swelling interferes with his breathing, take him to the hospital asap.

I have no medical training. This is just what I think I would do in the same situation.

Is he taking any meds for the allergy?
It may just be that. Did he go to the same artist? Any color changes? Brand of ink changed?
You may want to get a second opinion, and if he wasn't administered any allergy meds, you'll probably want to get those.
Tell him to take some Benadryl (might help) and give it a day or two....see if it gets any better or just progressingly worse.

It could be allergies... reds/oranges are usually the biggest problem for people with allergies (other colours can cause it, too, but a lot of red/orange disagrees with a lot of people).

Even if it's just allergies, though - allergies can be serious. If it doesn't clear up, I'd suggest going to the hospital to have it checked out, maybe get antihistamines and/or antibiotics, something to help clear it up and bring down the swelling.
