Indulgences In The Catholic Church.

    I was raised RC. And while they didn't stress indulgences by the time I grew up, they still are part of official Catholic dogma. So I will try to explain them as best I can, just so people understand what they involve.

    Yes, protestants complain that with indulgences, Catholics are buying salvation. But that's not true. An indulgence can be a donation. Which like a good deed or a prayer, comes from the heart, and can be meritorious. Now some protestants do believe in tithing, which is required for salvation according to Leviticus 27:30.

    Of course, like the Catholic church some protestant churches simply encourage donations. Which like donations for indulgences, is not required. But you generally are not welcome anymore in that church if you don't give them, I've noticed.
