my friend's SIL is being induced today.... but it seemed very odd to me and i wanted some opinions. apparently she isn't due yet, and they were originally going to induce on the 22nd but the doctor decided this past week to induce today. doesn't that sound crazy?? my friend thought the due date wasn't until june 1st but that he may be wrong.... if that's right, then why the hell would they induce almost three weeks early?? not to mention they could use another three weeks to save up some money for this baby too... my friend said he asked his brother and that there aren't any complications, they just want to do it now. can anybody give me good reasons for inducing labor? this instance seems rediculous to me, but obviously there are good reasons out there right?... i've just heard how hard the labor is when you induce...
it is ridiculous....fucking ridiculous....If there are no concerns and no warning signs for anything going wrong, inducing AT ALL is NOT a good idea. Some babies are just not ready to come out, and forcing a baby out before it's time only leads to complications for momma and baby during labour and for baby after birth. Even being almost a week overdue, I would NEVER think of going to a hospital and inducing this baby out. She's not ready, so I'm not going to force her.
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164017 tamee started this thread a couple weeks ago, check it out It seems really messed up to me, too, that they would induce her, especially if they don't know her exact due date? Did she have her 18 week ultrasound? Usually they can predict the due date with the measurments they get from that. Did they not do another ultrasound before they decided to do the induction? The best place for that baby is in the womb until 42 weeks! This doctor of hers sounds like an idiot. Is there any medical reason at all for him wanting to do this? Labour is very hard with induction, I feel bad for her. About the only good thing about labour induction is when it's used when the baby is in danger, and that's about it.
thanks for the link there's a lot of interesting stuff in there. when my friend told me about inducing i asked some questions and so he asked his brother why they were inducing. (i think my friend's fiance was also concerned and is studying to be in the medical field herself, so he had two concerned females asking questions) anyway, all he told me was that there are no complications they just want to do it now, and that he thinks the baby might be really big already. anyway, i really hope it goes smoothly and that the baby is a big healthy one, it just seemed so wrong and stupid to me.
I don't understand why people get so in a hurry to have their babies. Why not let nature take its course. Chances are that she will end up with a c-section. My friend was very anxious and begged her doctor to take the baby out because she was "tired" of being pregnant. Well, he did it, 3 weeks early. The baby was born with immature lungs and kept in the NICU for 2 weeks. She still has asthma because of it and needs daily treatments. She felt so guilty for pushing her doctor into delivering her.
