Indian Supreme Court considering online porn ban

Discussion in 'Latest News' started by Resistance isn't futile, Apr 29, 2013.

  1. Ban it!!!
Despite what the "pro-porn" camp might say. Looking back at my own experiences it's obvious that porn doesn't show healthy sexual relationships. It shows misogyny, both directly and indirectly.

Therefore I'm in favoring of banning it.

Banning porn in India, might get themselves in a hairy situation..

That this is the major form of sex education for men should be taken very seriously by the women’s movement. The same men who get off from women being brutalised and called cunts, sluts and cum-dumpsters are the ones who go on to become politicians, corporate executives, judges, media professionals, policy makers and bankers. In other words, they become the economic and cultural elite that shape the material and ideological world that determines how women – and their children – will live. Most of them will become partners and fathers. To assume that porn is mere fantasy and does not impact on the way men think and feel is to ignore decades of research on how images frame our social construction of reality.

Porn is an industry, and like other industries it shapes the way we live. The fashion industry shapes the way we dress, the food industry the way we eat, and the sex industry the way we think and have sex. To argue otherwise would be to make the ridiculous claim that the only industry that has no power in the real world is porn. Once you do a left-wing analysis of the industry, the arguments of the liberal and postmodern feminists seem somewhat naive and unsophisticated.

Porn needs to be taken very seriously. As long as we have an industry that disseminates images of women as willing and legitimate victims of male sexual cruelty, we will never have true gender justice. Until men can see women as full human beings who deserve the same rights and dignity as they do, we will continue to have a gender-stratified system that discriminates against women and children.

Here's an article about how it starts on Facebook

I believe the following comes from Andrea Dworkin

For the apologists of pornography, their most used (and abused) line of defence is that pornography is sexual fantasy and therefore not real. They like to tell us that by viewing racism and sexism being represented in pornography, we will be releasing sexual fantasies that would otherwise have no outlet. Apparently, without the "cathartic" and "de-repressive" value of pornography, we will have a more sexist, racist and violent society.

But if you think that these pornography apologists are confusing pornography with social service, you are wrong. Pornography does have an educative function, it teaches men to relate misogyny with with sexual arousal.

The only way forward is to raise public awareness about pornography as sexual violence against all women, and the refusal to support, purchase, or even tolerate the existence of pornography. Pornography is the human rights violation committed against half of the world's population. The day that pornography and all forms of sexual exploitation against women are completely obliterated from the face of the earth, is the day women will begin to be recognised as human by the other 47 percent.

You forgot to mention what other fun things came out of her mouth:

"Under patriarchy, every woman's son is her potential betrayer and also the inevitable rapist or exploiter of another woman."

"(...)the project of raising a boy is fraught with ambivalence and leads inevitably to bitterness..."

"One needs either equality or political and economic superiority."

"I'm a radical feminist, not the fun kind."

One of the problems in banning pornography is that such a ban might well ban any websites that have the word "Porn" in them or contain discussions centred around porn,so consequentially sites like Hip Forums would become unavailable in such countries that implemented such a ban.

I don't exactly like porn either but hat about freedom of expression? Should we ban everything that seems obscene? Hello, censorship?
    I NEVER support censorship.

you didn't do anything wrong, you just said what we all were thinking. Keep being awesome.

Freedom is a big responsibility. some people can't handle it or are threatened by the freedom of others.

  17. One man's rights end when they infringe upon the rights of another.
    - Voltaire

Therefore the right to watch porn ends when it starts oppressing women. So if I might very politely request that you do a search on the subject of "the pornification of society. "

Because as the current situation stands...
Many men, mostly from my generation, have come to believe

    1. That the liberation of women involves a penis...
    2. That freedom of speech is synonymous with porn...
    3. All discussions about having responsibilities are a conspiracy of oppression...
    4. And anyone that doesn't feed into their personal opinions and/or desires for instant sexual gratification should be ridiculed...

I was thinking about this for a little while, and I'm torn. Is online porn prelevant in India? Is their society different to the UK? Are their any differences in attitudes to females in India? What is their sexual education like? What role does religion play, if any? Big questions.

The bottom line is, though: There was rape in India before the advent of online porn, and before the invention of electricity. So the only question is: Has it increased since it has been easier to see porn online?

Porn is harmless to most people. I have never seen any females exploited. I'm sure it does go on, though, obviously.
The porn I've seen the women love it :D

But I can see it twisting a few minds. Minds easily twisted, and likely to be twisted, anyway? I dunno

Jerry Springer is worse than porn. unless you were talking about some rape abuse porn. Other than that. porn is usually people making love. Ive never seen guests on Springer making Love. They make war and arguments. They are obnoxious, vile sick people that need to be put in a fucking wood chipper..

worst of all this fucking Springer shit is on Daytime television where children can watch it and emulate it..

  20. From what I can tell and from what my hindu friends have told me. The situation is building in India and there has been substantial correlation between the availability of porn and the increase in the incidences and severity of voilence against women.

My concern is as the case with with many things in this world. We don't know the impact of what's currently happening until it's too late. And when it's too late what happens is the solution has to be draconian and our freedoms will have to be sacrficed.

Now I'm of the opinion that if banning porn protects another 5 child from gang rape or a young woman from being murdered. Then it should be banned. Porn is not a vital part of any modern society and it's not the ultimate expression of any kind of freedom.
