Me and my sweets for valentines day are going to an all vegetarian Indain restaurant. We are fairly new at Indian food, only having gone once, and loved it.

Any recommendations? What are the yummiest Indian treats you have experienced? Why? Were they spicy? just yummy? what. please describe.

I love spicy food but it doesn't necessarily have to be. The only vegetable I am not fond of, but will eat, is peas. so please do share. I am always very excited to try new "ethnic" foods...

oh god...i'm sooo stuffed right now, I just got back from eating indian for my birthday :)
I love anything with chickpeas in it. I also like pooris + yogurt, or anything piled on top of them. Samosas are really good too. Most things have at least a slight spice taste to them. The place I went to you could tell them how spicy you wanted it. The spiciest wasnt nearly as spicy as some thai food I've had.
I honestly haven't had any vegetarian Indian that I didnt like yet.

funny, they both have Indian and foof in their titles. And we have a search function.

peas will be Mattar in a Moghul (North Indian) restaurant, and appear in samosa and several mix veg dishes. However, I think there is kitchen magic going on: I cannot stand cauliflower. Except in Indian cusine. the use is pretty small in amount in a mixed dish, much like fried rice.
I can't recall seeing mattar in South Indian dishes.

    My favourites:

    Chana Masaala (chickpeas)
    Mattar Paneer (peas and cheese)
I can't remember the name but there is a dish with sweet potatoes and eggplant that is excellent
And who doesn't love samosas? :) (as well as veggie pakoras and onion bhajis)

Also, may I recomend kheer. Its a dessert that's like a really nicely flavoured rice pudding (ish).

Hope that helps a little...those are my favourites :)

If you eat dairy you should try palak paneer- it's a soft cheese with a spicy spinach sauce. If you don't, try some tofu samosas. Both are excellent.

I'm a pescaterian but I only eat fish with sushi, otherwise total veggie. I eat eggs and cheese and stuff but have been staying away from it for diet reasons. I'm getting in shape and clearing up my complexion. but I love spinach. I might take that up.

Anyone know of any good picture sites for indian food. I looked through the yahoo ones but they were kinda mixed and confusing. Simple Dummies for Idian Food sites would rock.

p.s. the more healthy and more low carb the better. I'm being a fitness addict :)

Try looking up Indian food on Flickr.com - there are tons of pictures on that site and they're really easy to search.

My favorite Indian dishes are samosas and dahl - which is basically a lentils/rice dish which can have any number of veggies in it. I make mine with tempeh, split peas, brown rice, lotsa spices, kale, peas, red peppers, etc. Good stuff and very filling/healthy. It's most likely vegan too, or at least my recipe is. :) I don't really know the names for everything, but the last time I was at an Indian place I got some kind of mixed plate that came with a bunch of dishes on a tray. OMG was it good!
