Inception Movie Blurb by Shale July 16, 2010 This movie was really good. Not many people will care for it. But for those of us who can appreciate a blind ride thru often confusing scenery and just know that eventually it will come together, this movie will be a lot of fun. In fact, I can't tell you too much about it because it is still processing. The first half hour I didn't have a clue what was happening, but after that things started forming nicely, with key plot points revealed in due time. However, it is quite involved and I feel there was much missed this time around. I will either see it again in theater or get the DVD when it comes out (Got a place for it on the shelf next to Dreamscape and The Cell). Bending Reality in a Dream The best description would be Mission Impossible inside Matrix. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an "extractor" who can go into a person's dreams and find corporate secrets. This is done with sedatives and a machine that allows people to merge their subconscious with others. On the cutting edge of this technology/art is "inception." Instead of stealing dreams, you put in a thought, which like a virus is always there, working on the person to make changes in his thoughts. He is hired by Saito (Ken Watanabe) head of a large corporation to change the thoughts of Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy) to break up his dying father's mega corporation which is about to swallow up all competition. To do this Cobb has to put together a dream team to manipulate the scene. His cohorts are his old partner Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt ) and a new architect Ariadne (Ellen Page) because they will be going deeper into the psyche than in an extraction. Yeah, we go to dreams within dreams and the resultant problems with several people sharing the same dream, bringing in their own subconscious to the mix. Complicating things is Cobb's personal demons, which pops up at work, namely his former wife, Mal (Marion Cotillard). What are you doing here Mal? The team encounters all sorts of unexpected problems on their mission, (including Mal) and unlike a light dream where you get out by being killed, in a deep dream like this, if you are killed you don't return to the surface, staying in some sort of vegetative state inside your head. One of those Dream Hallway Fights Great editing in this movie as we go back and forth between different levels of dreams running simultaneously in diff time sequence (5 minutes in real time is 1 hour in dream time, but in level two dream it is 10 hours and even longer in deeper dreams). See what I mean about a complicated story? IDK how many ppl will enjoy this but I sure did. Def gonna see it again.
Can’t wait to see it; although as usual I'll wait a couple of weeks until the theatres begin to thin out, especially after the movie pulled in over 60 million dollars this weekend BTW: I’ve read some of the reviews including the one in the Boston Globe and the reviewer gave it 3 out of 4. Hotwater
I read the director was trying to play along with the current trends in cinema then turn those trends on there head.
Personally I didn't really love it all that much. Plot was good, though the ending was a tad too predictable, considering DiCaprio is into these kind of movies...
I hope I'm not the only one who didn't completely understand this movie. After a while, I decided to just sit back and see where the journey took me. The funny thing is that I enjoyed it even though I didn't understand so much of it. It seems like there were dreams within dreams within dreams. I went with a friend of mine and at the end told her, "Now if you ever again think any of my dreams are strange, I'm going to remind you of Inception."
Best movie I've seen in a really long time.. Not only were the effects awsome, but the plot was great. (not something I can say about most movies) it really mind fucked me, not in a mulholland dr. way, but in the "memento" kind of way. (you can follow it, but at times it can be tough) The only way it couldve made it better for me is if the top kept spinning.
complex on so many levels, its one of those movies you will have to watch a few times to really get a good feel for it (unless your extremely smart and perceptive and pick up on things like this the first time through....not me!) but unlike most movies, this had a great ending. I thought overall it was one of the better movies ive seen, def. worth a look. Thought the architect recruit (girl from Juno) was extremely out of place and was a really lame character. didnt really understand why she was even in the film period really. but other than that I think it was extremely well written with extreme attention to detail.
I saw it last night. It was pretty damn trippy... I wish that they had done more reality-bending inside of dreams, though. Why couldn't architects make people fly, or summon things and etc.
Saw it this weekend. Seriously kool - exciting - mind expanding and imagination stretching. I thought I had most of it figured out til I spoke with my 30 year old son. He opened up some doors I hadn't thought to look in!! Well worth the money and time.
This is one of the best movies of the past few years, and the fact that so many people seem to like it gives me hope for Hollywood. There are some loose ends and the ending isn't exactly a surprise, but I don't see why every movie needs to have a twist ending. Seriously, it's like ever since Se7en people need to be surprised by the way a movie ends... in Star Wars, we all knew that the Death Star would blow up and the good guys would win, but it was still a good movie. Personally, I thought this was much better than The Dark Knight (which Nolan also directed). I thought that the whole 'dreams within dreams' thing was amazing-- the idea of time being different at different levels of dreaming was an excellent way to keep things tense and explain how everything was urgent and not urgent at the same time. They crammed about as many ideas as they could into it, and also included enough action for it not to be boring. This is exactly how the Matrix sequels should have been. So yeah, I loved this film.
Yes - def.one of the best films I've seen in a long time. I'll probably see it again when it's out on DVD.
I don't get the hype about this movie. A dream within a dream? Is that it? I've come up with the same ideas years and years ago and the ending? Lol. Everyone is all like omg there's a twist. Well there is no twist, just a scene for you to make up the ending the way you see fit. Is it a dream or real? Personally, the sound of the spinning Jew toy suggested it was about to topple over. 4/10
I enjoyed the movie. It was interesting. The idea was cool. HOWEVER, there are inconsistencies. For instance, when there is no gravity (due to the falling van) in the first dream, they float in the 2nd dream because our bodies behave similarly in each level. So WHY then don't they float in the even lower levels? If there is no gravity in the 1st and 2nd levels, why not the 3rd? I also found that the overall plot was stupid. The overall point of the movie is to create an idea in someone: to collapse a business. Although this is a more realistic reason someone would want to do that, it's a rather boring idea. This is why I hate it when the movie is compared to Memento. Memento dealt with raw emotions, betrayal, mystery, and twist ending. Inception was a very linear, predictable movie. For that, those movies are not at all worth comparing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie. I think it's brilliant for it's own reasons but not in that way most people believe it is. I enjoy reading about the movie. For instance, I learned that the dream world is indicated by a ring on DiCaprio's character, but in the real world he doesn't have it on. I think this discourages people's theory that the real world in the film is actually in a dream... 7/10
It was a great movie, I saw it twice. The first time I was watching it like any summer action flick, mainly looking to be entertained and amazed by action and special effects, hoping for a decent plot. The second time, I watched it with a more thoughtful eye and really explored the movie's themes and plot devices (such as the kicks). Both times I came out really satisfied.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Time out!! Was the goal to plant and idea to collapse a business??? Or is the does the film go one level deeper - that is to get Dicaprio back with his family and to get over his wife. The company is just one of several ideas implanted in DiCaprio's brain via multiple level dreaming. It is not real.
It's true that Dicaprio does solve his own issues along the way. I guess I just found it disappointing that the cause for it all was for business expansion.
