smoke of any sort is a bronchial irritant, and can potentially trigger allergies/asthma.

I have been told by a naturopath and a DO (regular form of doctor) to lay off when I get cold symptoms, unless I want the cold.

I have taken to leaving a window open if I'm in the same room.

I always worry about long-term damage from incense... so I try to lay off. I'm addicted to incense tho, so I try to keep it down to no more than 5 sticks a day. *feels like a smoker talkin' LOL*

Having windows open while burning it DOES seem to help with the smoky part... I have done this before and it seems to retain most of the scent in the house while the smoke goes out the window, although not all of it. Unfortunately the weather doesn't favor leaving the window open most of the time where I live.

I also wonder if it can mess up the walls and surfaces in your house.. like, soot buildup over the years or grimy stuff or something.. has anyone ever experienced this?

My dad's allergies go fucking crazy when I burn incense. You really ought to open the window anyways though. I'm sure that incense is contributing to the sick house syndrome all our houses probably have.

Sure, Bree. It gunks up just like nicotine, depending on the oils.

Test a few cones in a closed car. Clean windows. burn. Re-clean windows.

I only burn about an inch at a time... I just stick a bobby pin where I want it to stop. Then I don't have to close the window, but I get just as much scent stuff.

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but is there any way at all to burn incense without it gunking up the walls and mirrors??

I have to secretly burn incense because my parents HATE them. My mom said something about it smelling like a "hippy joint" in here. First I thought she meant joint, as in joint..so I laughed. Then I realized she meant like place. So now they get super pissed when I burn them, heh. Especially the Nag Champa's I love, pfft. Damnit, I love incense.

I burn a stick every few days when the smell in my room fades away:pBut I think if you're burning a lot, MAKE SURE you have good incense. I'm not talking about dollar store stuff, get real stuff from a health/new age store.

Aye, smoke is bad whatever form it comes in. Try and keep your incense as natural as possible. What I do is open a window and burn it when I'm not in the room, the scent will hang about long enough for you to enjoy it.

Obviously make sure your holder is decent and not located on top of your flamables!
