In which language do you write? In your own language, or another? And if you write in another language: why exactly in that language? Do you think it's difficult to write fluently in another language?

Mostly I write in my native language, Dutch, but sometimes I also write poetry in English. I think it's more difficult to do that, because I'm able to say what I want in English, but the way of expressing my feelings in it will be less clear and teh vocabulary of those texts will be rather limited. I'd like to write some more in English, though, I think it's a nice way to practice the language.

    I write in English

By default really as it's the only one I am competent enough to use for the task.

Though I do often use words/phrases from other languages, when there are characters of other nationalities (e.g I'm writing a story about the last Tsar, so use a bit of Russian). I like to think that makes the dialouge seem more authentic and interesting.

If you've enough skill to be bilingual, then yeah go for it. That is such an impressive skill. The nearest I can manage is the odd phrase of German.

Laura, as a fellow Dutch speaking person I have to admit that I usually write in English and Mandarin Chinese, but when I write in my diary I usually write in Dutch.

    Love, bird.

a lot of my scattered notes go between english and hiragana/katakana.. the words i write with the japanese alphabet arent really words, theyre just cool sounds that ive thought of, and easier to write out in japanese than english. :p

    English and Greek.
A lot of what I write is based around my environment and our way of life, so it probably sounds better in Greek.
It's especially good when the characters are swearing, because then it gets really colorful. 10,000 years worth of cusswords is ample vocabulary to fill any worthwhile literary work.

I usually write in English, but every once in a while I'll throw out a poem or little paragraph in French.

I love how no matter what you say, it sounds absolutely beautiful. It is the perfect medium for someone who writes simply to hear the words, ya know? :D

Nothing stopping you feministhippy. There are so many admirable cultures out there on this big planet. Choose one that fascinates you and dive in. I notice that you're from the Big Apple, so in a way you're lucky because you will be able to practice the language as well with so many nationalities living there.

Mostly English. Somtimes French or Italian but in a very limited way. And very occasionally Chav, Esturian or Yank when I'm taking the piss.
