The strangest thoughts come to mind when I take my morning showers...so I pose this question to those who are Nude and Nude-at-heart. In the grand scheme of things, we nudists would like to have our lifestyle choice accepted for various reasons (which are many and not the point of this discussion). But the thought occurred to me, what if that barrier was not there? What if it was to be considered as normal to be nude and to only have to wear clothing when various types of weather demanded it? How would this impact society as a whole? The industry that came to my mind immediately was the paparazzi industry. All those who are paid by trying to capture photos of celebrities in the buff or displaying some accidental "naughty bit" and then publish these shots in various mediums. If everyone went nude every day, certainly there would be no need for this industry to exist? Then I began to wonder how it would impact the sex industry. It is human nature to (when the chemistry is right) to become sexually aroused by a mate that is sexually attractive. I understand that being nude all the time does not mean a nudist is always thinking about and having sex all the time, which is why I suggested "(when the chemistry is right)." But nudity and sexuality in those circumstances go hand in hand. Part of the allure of the porn industry is to see men and women performing fantastical acts. Part of that draw is to see these models nude. One could theoretically suggest that part of that loses some of its luster if society as a whole is always nude. I know it would definitely put an end to publications such as Pl@yb0y or P3nth0use (**not sure if I could actually name those companies on this forum**). Under this reasoning, it could be viewed as a threat not only to religious circles but to the adult industry if we all lived in a clothes free and enjoyed a life without clothing. What are your opinions?
Actually, in the scenario you suggest, I don't think its impact would be as revolutionary as you suggest. Yes, it would get rid of curiosity about genitals and breasts, but to be realistic, nudity would still only be acceptable in certain places: beaches, swimming pools, rivers and lakes where people bathe and swim, and perhaps parks. In other words, the swimming costume would become, for some people at least, superfluous. But remember, models and celebrities often get photographed in bikinis to display their beauty and their sexual attraction, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. So I suppose sometimes they would be photographed nude instead, and people would appreciate the whole body without parts of it being interupted by textile. Breasts would still be seen as erotic, but only in the same way as a men's bare chest is. And nudity would probably still be optional rather than universal. Some people prefer to cover up, and they must have the right to do so - not to be pressured into being nude if, whether rightly or wrongly, it makes them feel uncomfortable. Teenagers, for example, tend to be shy about their bodies, so on the beach they might be seen in costumes while their parents are nude. Though I know there are plenty of nudist teenagers, as Garden Guy has pointed out. As far as religion and the 'adult industry' are concerned, hopefully religious groups would adapt to changing values and stop being so prudish about the body. Pornography, however, would probably continue, because there's more to it than just showing naked people: the models are always carefully posed to produce a sexually appealling effect.
