:( Okay, today a really gross thing happened! There's what happened: next week is homecoming for my school, and all this week there'll be pep rallies, and school spirit every where. I don't really do that whole thing but hey if others like it great... so then next week will be spirtit week... i was like okay whatever... then they said on monday it'll be pirates vs. ninjas (you either dress like one or the other) then on tuesday it'll be hippie day! as soon as i heard this i imediately became so upset. i mean it's so stereotypical not ot meantion rude. i mean it's like they're comparing pirates, ninjas and hippies. as if we were some like of halloween costume.it's so offensive to any one who is a hippie-- they're making a day where people who usually look down on me get to "dress up" like me as if being a hippie meant to put on a costume? thats so degreating and mean. i thought that by now people would be a little more educated and see that being a hippie was a serios deal not something to make fun of. it really hurt my feeeling to be insulted like that. they're making fun of my way of thought and life. am i over reacting or a i right?

    I agree with the OP.

That's unsettling, to say the least.

when i was in grade 3 we had 1960s Day, and that was kinda like hippie day...we all had to dress hippie and dance to beatles songs :) it was when i first got into hippie stuff, and started wearring peace signs and bindis :p my entire outlook on life changed, and yeh, i guess that does sound stupid because i was only in grade 3, but im being serious :p

I would love to have a hippie day :l i think it would be fun.
I agree with crazylegs :) dress your hippiest, and just have a fun day!

    peace and love

don't take life so seriously you'll never get out alive! on my own opinion i could care less what other people do. you can dress up like a hippie for halloween or a thug or a house wife or whatever. its nothing to take offence over unless it is done in a very disrespectful manner. but your school isn't making it disrespectful they want to make coming to school that week fun by coming up with cool ways/themes to dress up as. if i were you i;d take full advantage of it and show them up. And don't let the little things get to you pick and choose your battles you'll win more and prolly be happier. =) but if its that serious to you then just don't particiapte and be upset at school....

I agree, you shouldn't get too worked up about it. It's just for fun, and no one is doing it to make fun of hippies, they're doing it because it's just fun to dress up and pretend to be a hippie for a day. At my school, they also did an 80s day, and that wasn't to make fun of 80s people, but just to make all the students happy by letting them dress up in school. That's what hippie/70s days are about, too. [IMG]

By the way, Jane, I think it's way awesome that you were into hippie stuff in 3rd grade. Lol, I didn't get into it until like 10th or 11th grade... but the Beatles were involved in my "hippification" too, lol. They got me into the 60s and the hippies. And my little sister calling me a hippie for becoming a vegan didn't hurt either. haha. [IMG]

Don't worry about it :). There are all types of costumes out there. I applied for a job at a Halloween store called Spirit (some of you may have heard of it, at least in the United States), and they sell costumes for everything you can think of. They have a doctor one and an Ozzy Osbourne one, for example. I don't think dressing up is intended to offend at all. It's just a day to have fun, so go have fun :D!

yea we had spirit week. I hate it it's seems so ultra-conformist to try to get people to dress up the same. Also i think its just a scam to sell sports tickets. Anyway we didn't have a hippie day type of thing but I still would be kind of offended

Hahaha chill pill, life is good, it's homecoming, we have stuff like that here too, but a bit different.
I'm sure pirates and ninja's get offended too, but life goes on.

Do what soaring eagle said, barefoot, topless if possible, drum circle, roll out a digeridoo, and distribute global warming fact card on 100% recycled paper.

they are looking a t dressing up like a hippie as a novelty. anything not in mainstream is a novelty. I surf, and for some reason people who visit my beach take pictures of all of us surfers like we are there for their entertainment, a souvenier......bugs the shit outta me, but what can we do?

dont be upset about it. because for one day a year, other people can pretend to be a hippie, but YOU ARE ONE!!! just look at it as a form of flattery..a compliment...because these plastic people wish they could dress like you all the time!!
