I have missed you all so much, this place can be a lil' bit overwhelming some times, come back on after my family holiday from hell, with thousands of new posts & threads sort of scare the shit outta' me
I hope all my lovely friends on here are doing ok, and your dreadies :)
As far as anyone I haven't met, please to meet you!

Had a hard few weeks like most people have at the moment, got morbidly depressed and in the end, it all related back to my hair!
I tried so many places for jobs, and the job centre, no luck once I went in for interviews, the employers made some shit excuses for why they didn't want to employ me, when it was obviously down to my dreadies.

There are so many short stumpy bits of cut loose hair from when I cut it all at the start of the journey, not to mention my fringe from when I cut it all at the start! I was such an idiot, it's getting worse and more noticable, aswell as the loose hair.
These photo's show them in a pretty good light 2 weeks ago or so, shame about the shit camera though(for anyone who hasn't seen them)

I got so messed up about it all, I cut one off.
I don't know why I did it, he's pretty long already and already knotty again!

I guess I want normal hair sometimes, I don't know what I want, but atm I don't have the faintest what I can do.
I think about the good times with them:
Parties, raving, out and about, the comments I get, the very few girls who I meet that like them.

The bad times: employment, being followed around tesco's by security, being randomly searched by the filth, college idiots & that no one takes me seriously.

I had such a mix of emotion when I cut one of them (Gerald, he will live on), it felt captivating but at the same time devestating.
They are part of me now, and if I cut them I would lose so much confidence and everything I learnt would feel useless.

If it's any conselation also, I gave the dread to a very handicapped friend who loves my dreadies so much.

I want some normality back in my life, i'm not sure if it's my dreads or my mind that need to be changed.
    Thanks for listening.
    Rant over.
    Alex

I always used to find it ridiculous/funny when narrow-minded security dudes followed me round in shops, (for some reason it doesn't seem to happen anymore). I'm about the last person who's about to steal something, and if I did happen to be a regular shoplifter or involved in regular "criminal activity" I almost certainly wouldn't have dreadlocks.

I understand your frustration, it can be hard to be taken seriously with dreadlocks, you need to make potential employers look past that when projecting yourself, and take you for what you are and not your hair. Alternatively look for jobs where dreadlocks aren't an issue.

I'm not sure cutting them off would necessarily be the answer, dunno though, only you can work that one out. Good luck in figuring it out... :cheers2:

*Edit dreads are looking good anyway:D Are they long enough to tie back yet?

    Cheers Merrivale :)
The back 3/4's are are but not the front ones :(
I always try to show the employers what I have to offer but narrow minded-ness always wins.
I'm not sure what I want right now!
    Thanks :)

Wear a suit when you're trying to get a job.
    Just a quick idea.

I only asked because if you can tie them back it helps to make them less conspicuous, guess you'll have to sit it out.

Have you ever tried actually bringing up the subject of your hair in the interview? I'm sure everyone will think this is a dumb idea because I tend to do things backwards...but usually my weird ways end up working out well...

yeah, what type of jobs are interviewing for? i'd definitely try to get ones that are "back of the house" or behind the scenes if you are having trouble. what about an outdoor job?

sounds to me that your just blaming your dreads. you don't know for sure if you didn't get a job because of your dreads. a lot of people o this site have jobs, so I think that's just a cop out. maybe you just weren't right for the job. Also, were going through a recession it's hard for everyone to find jobs!
Also, I don't get followed around by staff at tescos. lots of young boys do though lol....cuz your boys:pand as to no one taking you seriously...you think if you cut off your dreads they would?

I agree with the cutting as 'coping out' or an easy way out. I had a friend, he had a big *afro-ish* curly hair blonde hair, got a job, was fired from that job a few months later. When he decided to back out looking for work and couldn't find any he blamed his hair, and when he cut it he still didn't find a job.

Anyways what I'm getting at is that if your worrying about your hair standing in the way of these jobs, then it will. You need to believe that it isn't an issue. Sure there are employers who will not like your hair no matter how great you are, but there are just as many who just want a dedicated hard worker and if they see that in you, you shouldn't have a problem. You not getting a job could be because of many many things: your resume, the way you present yourself, whether or not that particular job is hiring/ your what they're looking for etc.

    * I used to get followed around by security when i was teen, and dreadless, so it could just be because you look young ? Anyhow,I think your hair looks great :) good luck*

seriously. I think maybe you're blaming your dreads for this terrible stuff.... I work in a long term care facility, my hair is against dress code. Because I would refuse to cut it, my boss said as long as its all pulled back and under a hair net, She won't even write me up. saying "its hard to find good staff". There are employers out there that will hire no matter what you look like. Hell if people with tattoos and piercings can work in children's stores, someone with dreads should be able to get a job too. Stop allowing you sweet hair to get in the way of who you are. Its probably the economy that is the reason for not getting a job, not you hair :)

and if all else fails... cut it... forget it... and get a real job. its just hair...
