I think. There's a whole lot of crap in the meat that we eat, hormones, dioxins, synthetic material, plastics, antibiotics and harmful chemicals. Any advice?
Be careful where the vegetables you eat are coming from, there's no reason to believe the majority of them are any less tampered with than livestock.
Well if you are going down this road make sure to get hooked up with some local organic vegetable growers otherwise like Drone said you will end up with veggies which have been messed with just as much as the meat.
Diet for a Small Planet, by Frances Moore Lappe is a good place to start. Actually, it tells you pretty much everything you need to know. The book has been in three editions. I like the first best. The third edition gets heavily into left wing politics. Lappe uses "democracy" to describe what she wants politically, without considering that most Americans oppose what she wants. I do not necessarily disagree with her politics, but her political message might put off people who can still benefit from her dietary advice. http://www.amazon.com/Diet-Small-Planet-20th-Anniversary/dp/0345321200
true. Get only organic, try tofu and shit like that. I say shit cuz it prob tastes like shit. Im not worried about the toxins or chemicals from foods that end up in my body, I add enough otherwise.....
I've started that again, my best advice is just remember how great fruit is and where that meat you eat comes from and what it went through. That generally helps.
if your only reason for switching from a meat diet to a non-meat diet is because of the chemicals that are injected into them.. then you are just fooling yourself in thinking the vegetables you get in the store are any less tampered with.. sure you can get organic veggies to avoid these things but you can get organic/free range meat as well...
Yes. I have organic produce and other products delivered to my door every week. It's a whole new mindset though. I'm having a hard time getting past like, eating salads, soups and sandwich stuff without meat. How do I fight back in my mind?
how far are you heading down the veggie path? are you not including milk/cheese/egg? because cheese/egg/mushrooms/egg plant/tofu are a couple examples of meat substitutes..
tofu can be substituted in just about any chicken and pork dish.. while Portobella mushrooms are a good substitute for heartier red meats.. im sure Startreken can add to this discussion too with his additional culinary expertise
I'm concerned about tofu. It's high in synthetic estrogen from the soy. I'd have to use organic tofu to make it feasible, but I'm not sure exactly where I could get that. I'm sure it's out there. I'll look.
i've gotten into enough fights over this topic here.. bottom line is, without raw proteins you are not getting nearly enough of what you need in order to get what you are missing by not eating meat, you need to buy suplements, which the good ones are quite pricey and they do not directly replace actual meat proteins. We have Canines for a reason people, how bout stop depriving yourself from what every body needs and just eat a fucking balanced diet.
Well, that's the thing. I'm not really opposed to eating meat. I would gladly eat organic meats every now and again. I'm a student, and I can't afford meat in general. And it's not good to eat the amount that I do anyway. So I'm trying to cut it out as much as possible and I may eat organic meats every now and again, but right now - I need to set my mind straight and stop eating it. I need to erase the desire and dependency I have on it. Because I really do have dependency on meat. I wouldn't know what to cook for many of my dinners without it.
