What do you suggest? I know we have a neighborhood garage sale coming up, and I can give things to Goodwill as well, but I'm just feeling so overwhelmed by all this crap.. I mean I have just random things in here, like papers or notebooks, or cd's and clothes. I think I'll give the clothes to goodwill (or the people who come around and collect clothes for the homeless) I don't want to get rid of everything, obviously, I like my guitar, and my music box from when I was a little girl, and I just realized this is a very interesting forum to post this in :p Thanks for whatever you have to say.

A man may command all the wealth of the world and yet possess nothing, he may also have not a penny to his name, yet hold the most invaluable of treasure.

Hey! I feel overwhelmed too with all my stuff. I try to get rid of 27 things a week....It works well sometimes. I have a one year old and I need to get rid of alot things.

If you have some pretty neat, or nice clothing you can take them to Buffalo Exchange or Twice as Nice to sell them. You get a little money back, or more in store credit.

BTW I live in Arizona too!

I could do with throwing out alot stuff aswell, it's hard to keep a clear mind when one has an extremely cluttered room. What is it about us that we seem to accumulate so much rubbish and uneeded stuff.

I don't know, but I do know that I don't need a lot of my clothes, I don't need any of my underwear (don't wear it) Don't need all my shoes, or hair products, lotions I do just because my skin dries out so quickly from this medicine, but I don't need this extra chair, or these teddy bears on my shelf that were machine made (my grandma made my favorite one, so I keep it) and I don't need these little things everywhere. I say we have a day that we get rid of much of our room, or our house

I just moved, so I was forced to examine everything. Get rid of it! You don't need objects to be happy. If there getting to you, just give them away (or throw stuff on eBay & make some quick cash)

I stopped buying new stuff a couple years ago, everything that I have I'm saving for the rest of my life. Except for some of the more frivilous items( bunches of computers) which I have given away to select people.

The only thing which will forever belong to you, is yourself.

You're feeling possessed by them. I have a great idea. Donate your stuff the the Louisiana Himalayan Association. They need paint and paper and pens and old computers and stuff.

Which reminds me. If anyone has some of the things mentioned on their site then PM me at:

    l-v-x@cox.net

and we'll see what we can do about getting your junk to new people who might find it precious. I don't have any money but if you could afford the postage then it would be a great gesture to send your paints and construction paper, old computers and stuff to them.

I feel this way quite often.

Unfortunately we live in a world that is overrun with materialism. I try so hard not to fall into that.

We are getting ready to clean out our basement. I have lived in the house for 7 years and there are still some boxes in the basement I haven't unpacked. OBVIOUSLY don't need that stuff!

Why not see what feelings are illicted when holding an object and first get rid of those that give you negative thoughts?, or which you associate with a bad episode in your life? Then get rid of the colours which don't "feel" right to you?

Keep the stuff that makes you happy.

Look at your thoughts and see what thoughts are brought up when they are looking at an object. Look at your thoughts as you handle them. Look at your thoughts as you decide to keep or give them away. Look at your thoughts as you look at them "talking to each other".

Giving them away with the idea of replacing them will only create new desires. So watch your mind and its rationalisations.

I'm slowly working on getting rid of the stuff that I don't really want, but I'm just having a hard time balancing getting rid of it with work, school, family, friends, studying for finals, etc....
but I know that I'm just making excuses.

if there are little sentimental things you can't get rid of (and i don't mean a teddy bear your grandma made, because you should keep that. i mean if you go to the fair and win some ugly pink frog but love it for the memory) just take pictures and write notes about why they're important. then get rid of them.

if you don't feel like carrying those pictures around, use a digital camera or a scanner and put them up somewhere permanent on the internet. they'll always be there, but you don't have to actually look at them.

better yet, don't even bother with the pictures. just write down "ugly pink frog - won after 26 rounds of throw the dart at the balloon". of course, even better would be to get rid of it completely, but it's nice to have documentation of what we THINK makes us who we are.

i've packed everything i "need" too many times to count. and then i've left, too many times to count, with nothing, and found that even the "bare essentials" weren't neccessary.

....anyone ever read The Gospel According To Larry?
