of all the people on the forums who have dreams and ideas of hitchhiking and backpacking, and posted lots of threads. how many have actually done it? and not just posted a forum about wanting to do it.
I've hitched all over canada... from coast to coast with many back and forths in various areas... I had a backpack and a duffel bag and everything I owned was in them for years...
never..but I know you are in the middle of just such an adventure...where are you today?...and...How are you today?
I've backpacked for a few weeks at a time. Once for a week with the clothes on my back and a pocket knife.I plan on leaving here in the next month to do it full time. I am pretty excited about doing it.
When I was in my teens, I hitchhiked tons. All up and down the California coastline and once even way up into Oregon. I've also backpacked a lot - even "wilderness" backpacked a few times with friends (everything you need in your pack; hike into like the Sierra Nevada mountains for a day or two, all "off trail" until a nice spot to camp is found, stay maybe 4 or 5 days; never see anyone else). But I haven't done anything like that since my early twenties. Good old days!
well in my 30s I worked my way across India, Sri Lanka, Burma (it was then) Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Irian Jaya, PNG, OZ, NZ and then back thro Asia to Kenya, Uganda, Zaire, CAR, Gambia, Maroc etc. Spent 3 years at it. Best time of my life but you can get stuck into a mindset. After that I just used to go off winters to somewhere warm. Then I was 8 years in NZ be4 landing here 3 years ago in freezing Switzerland (nice summers tho). I've probably visited about 45 countries so far in my life and hope to make plenty more.............
