Hi all! Well, after a huge ordeal with my dad, I'm finally back with a shiny new certification, and I'm now working on finishing my degree. After all the issues we had, lasting more than a year, I finally moved in with my mom and finished out school. However, now I have a new issue. I'm sure some of you remember my posts about my mom and her rather outspoken views on my barefoot lifestyle. For those of you who do remember, I probably don't need to explain. Long stories aside, I am actually nervous to go barefoot now. In the past year, I think I may have gone barefoot three times in public. I finally decided that I genuinely don't care what she thinks. I know that's the first step, but I still find myself extremely nervous to go barefoot. Can anyone make any suggestions as to how to just relax and slip those sandals off?

    Great to be back!

It's your life do what you want. If you want to take your shoes off do it, if you don't or feel the looks of others will make you uncomfortable, don't do it.
It's about being happy and if being barefoot does not for some reason make you happy and relaxed do something else. Seriously, just chill, enjoy life and if you want, take your shoes off.
The only big deal is in your head. :)

It is only an issue if you allow it to be. Let it be her issue and not yours.

There's not a single thing anyone can say here that will suddenly make you feel comfortable going barefoot in public. You have to do it. Plain and simple. My suggestion is take baby steps. Go barefoot out to your mailbox or to retrieve something out of your car perhaps. Take out the garbage minus the shoes and socks. If someone sees you, so what? Keep doing the short stints and not too long in the distant future you will begin to loose your inhibition and you will start feeling the "soul" in your soles.

What if tell you that you could get an injure any time loading the ability to walk in your feet. My wife is on a wheelchair. Just by not giving for granted that now, at this very moment, you can kick off your shoes and go barefoot it's a great inspiration to do it.

You can do it. You want to do it. Do it! Who cares who looks at you. Most of those looks are envy. Pave the way with your bare soles and inspire others to follow you.

To your mom, you could go with the earthing thing, if she likes new age things.

Barefoot boy said it best, which is the advice I always give. start slow with short trips to mailbox or take out trash then expand as you feel more confident.
