I'm A Christian by Maya Angelou When I say ... "I am a Christian," I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'." I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven." When I say ..."I am a Christian," I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble, And need CHRIST to be my guide. When I say ... "I am a Christian," I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak, And need HIS strength to carry on. When I say ... "I am a Christian," I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed, And need God to clean my mess. When I say ... "I am a Christian," I'm not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, But God believes I am worth it. When I say ... "I am a Christian," I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, So I call upon His name. When I say ... "I am a Christian," I'm not holier than thou. I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace somehow.
When YOU say, "I'm A Christian" When you say, "I'm A Christian" I began to question the way you live I wonder if you take more than you give Are you quick to forget and forgive? Or is it taboo for you...to be passive? When you say "I'm A Christian" I want to ask you what you seek Does it require you to be lowly and meek? To turn the other cheek? Or just attend church a day or two a week? When you say "I'm A Christian" I want to ask you what you mean Does it truly mean you are "Like Christ" Or just playin' up that scene Like so many here and there and in between When you say "I'm A Christian" Do you feed the hungry? Lead the blind? Visit the prisoners? Comfort the maligned? Care for the sick? Love the unkind? Do you cry out for peace Do you embrace mankind? Or are you inclined...to resign? To judge others and whine To harbor resentment To have an axe to grind To try to outshine, to opine And bind your brother's mind? When you say, "I'm A Christian" What have you just said? Have the sheep been fed? Have the sheep been fed? BY LIBERTINE
Dear Libertine, Wow! Sometimes you truly impress me. Thank You. "As you have done to the least of these, so have you done to me." Peace and Love
Although it was very creative... I still think he tends to hold Christians as if they are perfect. Where as, true Christians can only strive for perfection, but always fall short.
True, but they're so quick to scream and shout about the dust in their neighbor's eye, while the log remains in theirs. The hypocricy of it is why the standard is held up. Not because we expect christians (or nonchristians for that matter) to be perfect...but because they act as if they hold the moral high ground when that is nowhere near the truth. But I guess it's easy to condemn others to hell for their ungodly ways, when one's own ungodly ways are forgiven by way of simply believing the right thing. Yeah, you can sin and it's ok, all is forgiven because you believe christ is god. But when anyone else sins, it's never forgiven because their beliefs are wrong. Shit, even if they don't sin you'll still say they're going to hell, because their beliefs are wrong.
Of course we will say they have sinned... because according to the standards of the Bible ALL HAVE SINNED. I know for me personally, I don't want to come off as "being better than everyone." I would want everyone else to be saved and enjoy the same freedom that I have encountered. But all to often, True Christians get labeled "holier than thou" just because they want to share what they have, with others. You see where I am coming from?
I get you man. I didn't really mean you. I mean, you and I differ on a lot of things, but you're not a jerk about it, not from what I've seen. But you can't deny that there's a lot of Christians out there that ARE acting holier-than-thou towards everyone else. In fact, much of the time they're total assholes, quick to point out everyone else's faults but blind to their own massive faults (pride is a sin, isn't it?). They act perfect, yet they are often much farther from Christ's example than the ones they are denouncing. Just like the Pharisees, actually.
Christians who act like that get me angrier than they get you. Why? Because, it's harder to make people respect your religion when there's clowns using the word of God to deal with their esteem issues. I also find those of us who judge the hardest fall the hardest when we fall.
When I say i am Christian it is just to get into your pants because deep down inside I know that a pagan has no chance When I say I am Christian you had better question why because, like most other Christians, i would be caught up in a lie I will never say I am Christian because i couldnt carry the shame of forsaking my own religion just to throw a little game. hehe, sorry just havin fun too.
Yes there are many "Christians like that.... and it stinks because they are a total turn off to Christianity. They are not good examples and they totally do not represent the message of God. The Bible talks about this type of Christians.... "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny Him." It is a shame... but that is why I always suggest reading the Bible for yourself and do not go by the example of other Christians.... because everyone is flawed
