Isn't this the respectable thing to do in any occasion where someone's property is damaged?

I know glass can break easily but this is no different than if I let you drive my car and you end up totaling it. The honest thing to do is to compensate them fairly or exactly replace what was destroyed.

My friend has this Marijuana Bible of Etiquette, and what the good book says is "pieces break, it happens. Your friend should not be obligated to buy you a piece, but should be able to chip in if he wants to."
My friend broke my prettiest bowl. It wasn't a very good hitter, so I wasn't too upset, but he offered to drive me to Ohio to pick up a new piece, when I get the money. Sounds good to me.
