I came across some info tonight concerning grapefruit and fentanyl. Apparently eating grapefruits or drinking grapefruit juice is a no-no when taking fentanyl as it causes the drug to stay in your system in an active state for a substantially longer period of time than if you don't ingest grapefruit. Unfortunately my PC crashed hard before I was able to save any of the info like who it was published by or where to find it & I haven't got my puter rebooted yet. I'm on my mobile phone now looking for it to no avail. As soon as I do I will update this with that info. Fortunately I don't care for grapefruit much but that would have been nice to know beings I have been on fentanyl for ten years. I realize a lot of Dr's don't know jack about what they are prescribing but I've had four different Dr's (3 of them being PM Dr's) prescribe my fentanyl over the last ten yrs and none has mentioned this not even my current PM Dr. and he is very knowledgable and as far as I'm concerned the best Dr. in this half of the country. And yes I have read the included literature with my meds and have not seen the warning in there neither. It just goes to show that you have to be your own advocate when it comes to your health. In the first four years of my chronic pain journey I was seen by 47 different Dr's and was prescribed over 60 different prescription combinations & first thing I tell people concerning Dr's is if you're not happy with them and they don't listen to what you're telling them and working with you then find another and another til you come across the one who cares and will work with you. I'm not talking about shopping for narcotics I mean your health in general as well as PM Dr's. It will make all the difference in the world when it comes to your health care. If you are in pain management and you find a clinic/doctor who does not treat you like a junkie, that alone will take a mighty big chunk of stress out of your life. Well good luck all and have a pain free day.
Now seriously, What Dr. is gonna tell patients what potentiates a certain drug hes perscribing. None Ive ever been to and by the looks of it, none you've been to either.......However I do believe its mostly lack of knowledge as to why they don't.....
my buddy had said that it doesnt matter what opiate it is, grapefruit will potentate it regardless. I dont eat grapefruits either, but i had heard it helps at least oxy.....
I did the Grapefruit Juice and the Tagamet (sp) with Roxies, it didnt poteniate the roxies at all for me, least not enough for me to feel a noticable change. Course that doesnt mean it doesnt work, I could just be the unlucky one. With 100s harping about it i cant believe they are all wrong....!
I always drank coffee as opposed to grapefruit juice. I found that caffeine is much better in those regards (At least for helping it kick in quicker, which is a huge help when you are suffering in great amounts of pain).
When you say it makes it last longer do you mean the same buzz, high loner? I do not see the bad point
