Are you a novice in the field or fairly versed in the complexities of Astrology?

As a novice user what do you want to learn from Astrology?

Do you want it to help you…
A) have better relationships with your significant other?
B) understand the personality of your children?

I believe, for many of us, understanding Astrology can be very overwhelming, too complex and deep to be of any real use to our everyday lives. I have studied Astrology for 38 years now and I am always drawn to how the traits of the Zodiac can help me understand myself and others. Isn’t that what most of us need in order to help us have better relationships with others?

I, like many Astrologers, believe that we develop most of our personality from the traits of the Signs we have with our “inner planets.” More specifically, the traits from our Ascendant (our “Self”), Moon and Sun Signs form the majority of the character we have developed. Just understanding the Elements that are in the two luminaries and the Rising Sign (ASC) of a person can tell a lot about why that person must act the way they do. (Our early environment did play a huge role in which traits we developed – our environment affected our lives, for better or worse, as we were growing up.)

Try seeing people from the standpoint of all 3 of these areas – their Rising, Moon and Sun Sign. Then you will be able to really understand why they have the Energy and Behaviors they do and you will finally be able to understand why they can’t have some of the same characteristics as you do.

In my opinion giving a reading on all the Aspects in the chart is beyond many people’s understanding and conversely just looking at a person’s Sun Sign is way too simplistic and tells nothing about their character - neither is going to really help people see into the personality of the people they are trying to understand and get along with.

I was told I have a powerful set of astrological signs years ago. Just threw 'em up there to see what would happen next.

I consider myself to be somewhere in the middle--I'm not a novice (I've been into astrology since I was 11 years old), but I'm not an expert either--I've always believed that astrology plays a big factor in our lives!

 

Scratcho let me see if I can come close to knowing you based on what you have given me.

Everything I say has to do on what you didn't tell me - the degrees of your Signs. If they are 10 degrees within the next Sign then those traits are there also.

Our Rising side (Feeling, Heart, Human Nature - our Past) is where we are Subjective - subject to, responsive to others. With Earthly, Taurus here your personal "self" is probably very sensitive to how others feel about you. Taurus is cautious anyways but more so when it is in the Feeling, responsive nature of the Rising Sign. If your early life caused Taurus to be "wounded" by others then you would be much more leery of the intentions of others. You are also very aware of your environment - the 5 senses are stronger in Taurus, so you could be very aware of the body language of others, more so if you are close to the Aries Cusp (Aries will give you a strong desire (Fire) to be accepted by others). Taurus/Aries would also make you more prone to fight or flight responses; Aries would rather flee to find someone who cares. If you are close to the Cusp with Gemini then you may have developed a sarcasm towards others (especially if you were wounded). Taurus/Gemini Rising would still be sensitive to others but with the added curiosity of the Air Sign that may help you understand what you are feeling inside. There are many other levels I could use to show you this side of who you are.

Our Moon Sign is our Emotional, Expressive side (the Present), the way we communicate the rest of ourselves to others. Scorpio by itself is very cautious in showing itself to others so that will affect what you are willing to talk about. Watery Scorpio needs to hide its emotions, it would not talk freely about its feelings to others also because that would show a side of weakness to a possible opponent. You control the situations, you control yourself. If you are Scorpio/Libra Cusp then the Libra traits may be there to make you want to debate whether I am right about this or not; you'll probably argue the opposite of the truth, just because. If you have Scorpio/Sagittarius in this expressive side of you then when you do talk it may be somewhat inspired and even colored with humor and laughter. The Fire here may also give you a desire for Adventures of the mind or the body.

Our Sun Sign is the side of us that Thinks and works to do things better for us (our Future). Taurus, again, is Sensitive to others so in this area it would have some concern for structuring where you go from here. Taurus is organized so it may be that your future is planned to a certain extent, that you have some ideas or plans about what you want to do next. A Taurus/Aries would be more concerned about "me" and how I fit into the scheme of things with others. Aries may give you a more adventurous bent on your future (the insecure Rising side of you may have other ideas about that), desiring to be on the go more often then the home body Taurus would like. A Taurus/Gemini Sun Sign would drive you to be more curious about how stuff works or even what makes people tick. Maybe even critical in your thinking of new situations.

One thing Astrology doesn't tell you is that your early development plays a huge part in what we become. The Signs of our parents and siblings will greatly affect how we view life when were children and it is our Rising Sign that is going to register the Past Feelings based on its Sign. Many Signs are Sensitive to others, Taurus one of the strongest, so it will be very subject to what went on in early life. That I believe is why many of us are emotional eaters (I am One also).

Taurus, Scorpio, Taurus is who you are (plus the Cusps). We all have to live our Signs and our environment will modify them based on how we responded to the events of our early years.

There are many more things to be said about your Signs but I hope this gives you a better sense of why Astrology works.

It would be nice to know degrees to see if your Signs are close to the Cusps. But...

Our Rising side (Feelings, Responses to others, our Past). Gemini is not reactive like Taurus and Cancer but it is a Sensitive Sign, more along the lines of that it senses the currents of the Air. It is critically and analytically aware of what is happening around them and it all depends on what they want to tune into, those things that interests them. I think with a Taurus moon your Gemini would be more tuned into what people are saying that may affect you. More in tune to an awareness of people and how they are treating you. Gemini also is curious about what makes things tick, man or machine, so you have the ability to fix or diagnose anything you set your heart to do or, with Taurus Moon, structurally build. A Gemini/Taurus Cusp in the Rising would definitely make you pay more attention to how you are affecting others and how others are treating you. A Gemini/Cancer in the Rising would be more into family, mindful of how you could be more caring and helpful to others.

Our Moon is our Emotional, Communicative side (our Present). With Taurus here you would be more interested in talking about Feelings, about how others may be affected by whats going on (Obama). Your voice should be softer and caring of what is said. With Taurus/Aries you would be more selfish it what you talk about, more about yourself and your needs. Taurus/Gemini could have a critical voice (if wounded) for how situations are handled, pointing out how errors . Also Gemini likes to get right to the point in what it wants to say.

Our Sun is our Thinking, Future side that drives us to do and correct. Libra is an Expressive Sign so with it in the Sun it may be more apt to be about future gatherings, maybe more interested in having time with friends and family (Cancer). Libra is all about the interactions between people so it enjoys having others to debate with, curious about how we relate to one another. Libra/Virgo Cusp would bring some cautious Earth into the mix. Virgo may be giving you a hard time about how you could of done something different in your last conversation with someone or how imperfect you are. On the other side Libra/Scorpio would bring some control and limitation to what you may talk or do with others, especially if your Taurus Moon is insecure with others (Taurus will bring caution to any aspect of your personality).

I've added a chart that very clearly displays the aspects of the Signs.

The first 4 Signs have the Sensitive Behaviors, the next 4 the Emotional, Expressive Behaviors and the last 4 have the Intellectual Behaviors. If you look at the traits for these Signs you can see the reason for this structure of the Behaviors. The Signs have a "bent" to be a certain way behaviorally and they each have a certain "Energy" which is like the Element they have be labeled.

 

I'm a Pisces and no nothing about astrology . I have noticed their is a large number of Pisces on this forum . Is it because it engages our thinking side , and dreamer like quality ? I have seen more here then anywhere else . I've also been told long ago that Pisces are the oldest souls of the zodiac . Have you ever heard this ? It kind of sounded like some zodiac reincarnation thing if i remember correctly .

 

I used to believe in astrology, from the ages of about 10-20. I learnt a lot about it, learnt to draw up natal charts and interpret them. I never believed too much in any prophetic value, but I did believe in personality and compatibility reading and other such stuff. I was an aquarian with the moon and mercury in aquarius in the 11th, and an aries ascendant.

Now I think it's probably total nonsense, and I'm just a regular (slightly more logical, thanks to age and experience) human female who was born in February in the eighties. It's refreshing to be free of superstition.

 

I believe with Pisces it is the combination of Water and Intellect. Pisces "thinks" in a Intuitive way - beyond anyone's understanding, including them. I believe they absorb the emotions from their environment, but in this case, because they are intellectual, they some how "understand" the plight of others. As with all the Water Signs they reflect back to the world in their creative ways what they have been absorbing. Pisces is more in tune with the Spiritual world. I have heard that Pisces, being the last Sign, contains the traits of all the other Signs, which gives them a very deep understanding of others.

 

I don't know if we ever are free of Astrology, once its in your mind it rarely leaves, we just chose not to look at others through that kind of filter. Someday when you have kids you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that all kids aren't as strong willed as you probably were (are).

I believe before Puberty we all just live through our Signs and whatever we become is because of the experiences our Signs have gone through. Once we become "conscious" of ourselves from Puberty, then we can start to see who we are and try to make as many adjustments as we can away from the Biases of the Parent Signs that raised us - to find our own selves.

 

Our3, I find it quite interesting you would mention the number of degrees a planet or sign (such as rising) is in; because that is EXACTLY what I have tried, to very little success, discuss!
My rising sign is conjunct with Pluto @ 29 degrees, also conjunct with venus @ 2 degrees Virgo. yay for me, huh...both nodes/ascendent and decendent at 29. Mercury is 27, Saturn and Neptune in 29.
So, since I am in no culture considered young, would I not have progressed past basically all of my "born" natal signs?...if that makes sense.
I do think all this born on 29 degree stuff did NOT make my life easier...however, I also believe that without challenging aspects, etc, we grow to be self-indulgent and self-absorbed.

Years ago I recall drawing up a chart for one of the most irritating, (non-deserving) good-luck having people I've ever known...her chart had NO squares, semi-squares, oppositions...nothing I can recall "malifient" (I think it's called). What ever a "challenging" (not good) aspect is. No challenges were scheduled along her way! gad, I thought... All her aspects, even the houses the planets were in a "good" place.

Even then I thought I rather be me. lol

Yes, about the old soul speculation in that I've read that more times than I can count. Perhaps that is why they seem to all be able to almost read your mind. haha

I think that beyond the 2 Luminaries and the Rising Sign the rest of it is too deep for us to really gain any value from. Our daily lives revolve around the Elements (Energy) and Behaviors we have from these 3 areas. Beyond that it seems too mixed up in how we are this and that from this square or that. From what I read on this forum and others many of those deeply versed in this stuff rarely agree on what it all means to the individual anyways - many of our perceptions of Astrology are based on our own bias - including mind. My Earthly Taurus and my unconventional Aquarius say enough of the confusion. Lets try to help people understand how they can have better relationships with their loved ones and others. Lets give them something they can really use.

I don't use any Cusps except the Mixing of the Traits from the Signs that are close to each other - Most everyone doesn't believe that we can be a blend of traits. Many say we can be a blend of Signs next to a House, why not the Traits of Signs.

Looking at just these 3 areas and the traits of Signs close to the Cusp will give many people a good idea of the majority of the personality they have developed - right now.
