If I was President of the United States, Fred Phelps would be in trouble.

Fred Phelps better be glad I am not President of the United States for he and his "church" would be declared a terrorist orginazation and summarily shut down. Such a declaration would or could result in the following:

1. Immediate arrest of all adult members and state ward custody of all minor children.

2. Seizure of all property and finances, including but not limited to church grounds and buildings, money in saving or checking accounts and cash, and any other tangible assets.

3. RICO Act and/or PATRIOT Act proceedings to halt all illegal activities.

In addition to these, I would also do the following:

1. Confine them in isolation cells in a supermax prison with absolutely no visitors, except as required under humanitarian law, such as Red Cross or physician visits, or to bring them their food and I would tell the guards to "slop the hogs" when it comes to them.

2. Sign an executive order denying them the right to bring lawsuits as they are notorious for filing frivilous lawsuits.

3. It would be tempting to play over the PA system in their cells the Jonny McGovern song "Wrong Fag to Fuck With" continuously.

4. A bread and water diet would also be tempting.

I know some of you will say that these are "cruel and unusual", but keep in mind how this insane clown posse has continuously behaved when it comes to funerals of gay people and soldiers.

 

That's pretty harsh treatment for sick,weak-minded people.Maybe they could be re-educated and made into usefull citizens.------uh --maybe not

 

I see you've put a lot of thought into this. Had you put the same amount of thought into the ideas of freedom of speech and expression, maybe your priorities wouldn't be so fucked. As it stands, you'd be a dictator, and it's a damn good thing you're not president.

 

Zorba, freedom of speech doesn't give one the right to slander someone or yell fire into a crowded theatre. Go to an airport and joke about bombs or hijackings or even mention the game "Chrono Trigger" and see if your free speech rights are upheld. Chrono trigger means a time bomb detonator to airport police, not the name of a video game from the SNES days.

Fred Phelps is a loud mouthed slanderer who abuses freedom of speech, calling anyone who challenges him a "fag" or "fag enabler" or other choice words and tries to incite riot. If you call someone a "fag" or "dyke" without proof that he or she is gay, that's slander or defamaion according to the law. Calling someone a "motherfucker" or "asshole" is legally considered "fighting words" and can get you jailed or fined, which is also outside of 1st amendment protection. Encouraging people to riot is not protected either, nor is making or possessing child pornography.

 

Also, I would bring a lawsuit against Westboro Baptist on behalf of all of the people who have been terrorized or harassed by Phelps or been on the receiving end of frivolous lawsuits from Fred Phelps. This is how you deal with terrorists. Use the law to shut them down.

I would have none of these thoughts against Westboro if they were not gay haters who sancify those who kill gays, such as Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney, and villify the victims, like Matt Shepard.

Actually, what the Phelps family needs is a good old fashioned spanking.

 

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but insulting someone is not defamation. I think Fred Phelps is an asshole from what little I know of him, but he still has the right to be an asshole. You can't 'abuse freedom of speech,' especially not by stating opinions, however unpopular they are. Freedom is freedom -- period. Everyone has the right to express their thoughts as they wish; even, believe it or not, people you don't like. I don't see how anyone can fail to understand this.

 

They're more activists than terrorists. Sure, they've been known to do fucked up things, but most of this isn't, I think, officially sanctioned by the organization. I'm sure many of them approve of it, but it's not like they're actively encouraging their members to kill people, etc. As far as I know.

 

The only Phelps I've heard of is an Olympic swimmer. If you were the president I'd impeach you.

 

You might like to point out to the parents,grandparents of Goodman,Schwerner and Cheney that the the KKK were/are "activists". I'm sure they'd appreciate the insight.

 

Last month I was protesting at the new scientology ideal org in DC when some people came up and told us that the WBC were just a few blocks away from us. They were there to counter protest against a pro gay marriage rally. Unfortunately by the time our group found out about it, that rally had already broken up and the Phelpsfags were gone. I think that most of us would have left the scientology protest in about a half a second to counter counter protest against those horrible people. Just the look on their face when they see two dozen people with Guy Fawkws masks on coming toward them would have been priceless.

The last I heard Phelps was in pretty poor health anyway and cults like his rarely keep going after the guy who starts them dies off, so hopefully they will STFU and GTFO after he croaks.
