yeah, I always (when i'm holdin') smoke just enough to get high, right before I go to the gym.

It may not make the workout any easier, but it makes the workout much more enjoyable. Actually i've noticed the workouts seem easier when i've been out for a while :&

Either way, I go to the gym about 5 times a week, and that can cover up a lot of sins ;)

Who else likes to smoke before excercise?

LOL, no gettin high and the gym just don't seem to mesh in my head. When I used to get high, I would just want to chill and sing and dance in the living room and talk and laugh my ass off. Then again I never really got high very often, maybe once a month and since my new job I don't at all anymore.

But just so you know smokin weed makes it harder for you to gain muscle. And just be careful.

Other than that, its whatever, at least you are workin out which is more than I can say for some people.

    Take Care,
    jen

hahaha, yeah I don't seem to be getting many "work out high" activists on this thread do I.

Oh well, I know its not to good for me, but that and coffee are my only vices.

Maybe I'll quit someday, but maybe not.:)

No need to quit, I am not saying that at all. I would not have quit if it were not for the fact that I was getting this job at the Y and well, it really does make it more difficult to gain muscle, not to mention the munchies, my god! It just doesn't project the best image for a personal trainer. Then again no one is perfect. I would love to take a toke again sometime but I'm not going to jeopardize my career for it is all.

As far as Yoga, I have heard of many people wanting to try this. Go to the Yoga forum and ask around, I'm sure some people have done it there. Could be interesting I suppose, but from what I know about yoga, if you do it properly then you won't want/need to do it high.

That's the STUPIDEST thing I can think of.

Yeah, trying to do a deep knee bend squat with 500lb over my shoulders while twisted. That's a recipe for utter disaster...

ANYONE, repeat ANYONE coming into any gym I'm in on something is a risk to himself and others.

I'm not talking about sitting on some machine waving your arm around while talking on a cellphone with the other. I'm talking about balancing iron over your shoulders and taking the risk that you'll give out and collapse with it on you. I want good, solid purchase on the bar and the floor (Chuck Taylors rock) and my entire wits about me.

Sorry! I don't live here ya know, I work two jobs, go to school and actually work out every day of the week! Sheesh. Look it up on google or something if you want to know that bad.

Everything I have read about weed has indicated that a side effect of using it makes it more difficult for the body to retain muscle mass. I'm not a scientist and I don't study the inner workings of pot and its side effects. All I know is what I have read from multiple sources.

I simply don't know anyone who is serious about working out who wants to put a bunch of crap in thier body. I mean if you are serious about getting/being fit, and muscular, then you want to take care of your body as much as possible. Like I said before, no one is perfect and not everyone is hard core about it, but it is important to some people, and you really should know what a drug does to your body before you run around doing it all of the time.

And Iron is right, it is extremely dangerous to lift heavy weights when you are stoned. When I thought about working out, I wasn't considering weight lifting, because like I said serious weight lifters just don't do that. It isn't fun and games to them, its life.

It's also dangerous, when YOU are lifting, to have some stoned ass clown around who might do something stupid and distract you.

    Calm down irongoth,

I never said I was balancing anything over my head, and I have no intrest in even attempting to lift 500lbs.

A workout can mean many different things. To me it means 6 sets of 30 push-ups, 6 sets of 50 crunches, and either 30 miles on a bike (outdoors), or 40min. on the "stepmill" depending on weather. Sorry if that seems to you like the workout of a wimp, but it works for me.

I HAVE NEVER INJURED MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE!

I also am NOT some "stoned ass clown" who's out to distract all you serious body builders. If anything ya'll are doing the distracting, with all your loud talk and grunting ("c'mon c'mon, two more, one more you got it man") I AM QUIET AT THE GYM, I do my thing and go home.

Hey hey boys... in your corners.

Grim, do what you want, just be careful, and be mindful of others. What you might preceive as harmless really could be dangerous at a gym, and let's not stereotype here because I don't grunt and make any kind of noises at the gym (except breathing hard) and I lift too. Some people are obnoxious, some are respectful. Pushing someone to do more isn't being obnoxious though I spot people all of the time and make them do just one more (however, dropping insanely heavy weights on the floor to draw attention to the fact that one is out of control, is distracting, dangerous and really bad for both the floor and the weights.) And just because you aren't lifting weights doesn't mean you can't get hurt. What if you are not paying full attention and your shoe lace gets caught in the step machine or the treadmill or something? Or what if you weave out into traffic or something? I don't think you can do much harm doing crunches and push ups ;)

Iron, you are right, it would not make me happy to be in the middle of my work out and have someone acting like an ass either distracting me or not paying attention to what they are doing. But I know people like that at the gym who aren't stoned (or at least I don't think they are.) And I know some people who are straight and even over lifting and still goof off and act foolish in the gym. My roommate is one of those people that is why I refuse to work out with him.

O.K. I'm sorry to "ya'll" for the stereotyping.

IronGoth, the last thing I ever want out of these forums is a new enemy.

The only people who I ever confront and take issue with here are the people I respect.

I definatly should not have made this thread so pro "high workouts".

FOR THE RECORD: I'm not saying anyone else should get high and then work out. Its just something I enjoy. IT'S NOT HEALTHY! I find my workouts significantly easier after 4 or 5 days without smoking.

In my defence, I am a vegitarian, I almost never eat in resturants, I work out 5 days a week and burn around 1000 calories each time. Also I bake bread for a living, the old fashion way. I "roll" over 1000 loaves a week by hand, which keeps my arms and sholders pretty fit. I don't drink alchohol, or soda and no tobacco of any kind. so marijuana and espresso are my only real vices.

I'm no stupid kid I promise you ;)

RE: Sorry if that seems to you like the workout of a wimp, but it works for me.

Yer alright Jim. Don't sweat it.

For me, a gym workout involves barbells, k-bells, clubbells, Thor's Hammers, bands, chains, chalk, blood sweat and vomit. If yer gonna bike and/or do pushups save yerself the gym fees, buy a bike and enjoy the fresh air! It's what I'd do.

BTW I am NOT a bodybuilder. Please please please don't call me that again. ;)

That being said, I said over my shoulders, not at arm's length. If I could C+J double bodyweight, I'd be an Olympian.

dont worry, iron goth hasnt smoke weed, hw wouldnt know anything about the different diminished and enhanced controls over ones body whilst stoned.

ive only read that cannabis prevents your muscles from working to their full potential. but i really cant vouch for any evidence, because ive not seen any. and ive done physical feats while stoned that i havnt been able to do while sober, so while im not provin anything there, just sayin its clear that cannabis doesnt necessarily prevent muscle movement.

at any rate, if you want to lose weight, cannabis can be good. cannabis may feel like its increasing the work on your heart but this may not be as it seems. if you smoke a lot, your blood can carry less oxygen. if youre -stoned- your lungs will take in more oxygen. so the oxygen factor can balance out. however, the increased heart rate is due to a drop in blood pressure. the blood vessels relax, and thus your heart needs to beat -faster- but not harder. in fact, it is under considerable less strain when stoned.

just thought id add my 8 cents
