Be glad you're not caught in the same web of left/right bullshit as everyone else. You don't want to step into that paradigm, believe me.

Keep yourself informed on current events and read up on political books that express each form of ideology and form your own opinion based on what you read.

Developing an informed opinion is good for making one opinionated, but it does not foster practical politic which is shrewdness, tact, and cunning.

Stay out of the Hip Forums political forums, for starters.

    Seriously. Not kidding or joking.

#1 remember that people find you most agreeable when you agree with them.

#2 offer you sentiments or ideas as an adjunct to your agreement with them, like, i see what you mean, I also think that, etc.

#3 be willing to take it to committee. Get in there and mix it up. In the first two steps you will find yourself a competent contributor to any discussion.

Be a sponge. Watch the news. CNN, MSNBC and The Fox News Channel. Decide for yourself, who you agree with.

It's a shame nowadays when you have to decide what the truth is when it comes to the news.

And don't let anyone tell you not to watch The Fox News Channel. I don't like MSNBC, but I recommended it to be fair. I watch it from time to time, to get another point of view.

I guess watching the news is the fastest and easiest way to get started.

And if you want to talk politics here, good luck.

    I don't waste my time.

Actually for best news, don't use CNN or FOX, MSNBC is just slighty above

Give the BBC news a whirl, New York Times is also great.

I don't like the BBC. I don't need no European point of view.

Seriously. Seems like that is the only reason we are in this war.. possibly. I sure hope it isn't because we want females in Pakistan to get an education, that is fucking retarded.

There are people here who take themselves and the politics forum way to seriously.

What is there to worry about - that you would be 'wrong'? That you would get criticised by some crank? Screw them, laugh it off. There isn't always a right and wrong anyway.

Just say what you think. Read about what you are interested in.

    I agree with hipstatic

Just go ahead and pick a subject - say what you think about it - see where it leads.

    Very very very true.

But I still try and stay away from the political forums because others won't let you state your opinion. They attack you and insult you. And usually they're friends of the moderator, so they can get away with it. You know the ones with 10,000 posts, who think the know it all when it comes to politics.

The mods in this forum are some of the worst offenders. Hiptastic's right that a lot of people take this forum far too seriously. Unfortunately, those people make posting here a pain in the ass for everyone else.

    LOL

But Zorba it’s not like you’re a serious contributor, mainly you post bitchy one liners against people whose views you don’t like or sycophantic praise of those you do or you spew out what you think are funny quips.

Zorba, I don't mind you using my quote in your sig. But it's kind of misleading. I don't mind the BBC in general, it's just the BBC news I don't care for.

''I don't need no European point of view'' is true.
