Since I've been young I've dreamt of living in the forest amongst mother nature and her beauty. So I've decided I'm gunna do it. I'm thinking about maybe going out of country, traveling far into some huge forest with a crew of kiddos, and settling down. We could build a cabin or fort of some sort, have a goat, a garden, grow a shit ton of pot, and live with the Earth. The thought of running away from this sick game we call society calls to me. I'm gunna do it.
But if you've made plans such as these before, what were they?

I love these posts! My very first post at HF was similar to this.

Fact is, it is not possible in today's world to do things you listed for a lot of reasons. Mainly that wilderness is vanished and fenced in and open land is completely on a grid and locked under sometime of ownership...sad I know. Depressing too.

But don't let this stop you. You can still have get aways.

I'll get away somehow. Even if I have to purchase a fine plot of land to do so. C:

Good luck! It's doable. There are a lot of people out there that share your sentiments and you should be able to do anything you want within modern reason.

It did. I found a homestead that is now almost completely self efficient. I learned a lot about my self and the world around me too. It was a success.

You can do it. It's hard as hell, and then some, but you can do it.

However walking into some woods and growing weed isn't realistic at all. Check out the 'commune'/'alternative living' area of this website to get some ideas.

    Yes, if there's a will, there's a way.
    But that's good to hear.

Communes are a cool idea, but I think it'd be even better to create one myself. Well, a small one at least. And if I must own the land, then I'll buy it- but the whole point is us being hermits.

My many trips into the Amazon are just exactly about that kind of get-a-way. There are huge tracts of jungle and thousands of tributary rivers where you can easily believe you are living in another, eariler time. There are simple pleasures of watching children play and grow. You can produce and gather enough to get by for food and shelter is growing all about, just waiting to be fabricated into housing. As well there exists only basic medication, little to no trauma care and lots of jungle creatures with poisonious bites. Transportation is accomplished by foot or boat. No electricity means no internet to look up information. Entertainment is provided by your imagination. Suspiction of outsiders exists and sometimes can prove to be dangerous.

In reality, I cannot live there alone. I did not grow up there learning from day one the ins and outs of Forest life. I can play at being a runaway by staying with my friends there but ultimately that doesn't satisfy. I content myself with being the visitor, a misplaced alien accepted by the locals. It's good for my tattered soul to play this game at times and any one who feels such a call should not hesitate.

Just remember you have to first have the money. LOL

    That is the easy part.

Dealing with people on your newly purchased land will be the hard part. It's your land and believe me others will have plenty of ideas as what you should do with your land once you openly invite all to live as nomads on it. The laws won't go away for you, keep that in mind too.

But you can do it. You gotta dream first.

Amen and I'm jealous of you. The Amazon has been my top travel destination since I was a lil kid, still is. Lucky.

I'd love to start my own commune, it's a silly little dream. But I just love dreaming dreams, so it doesn't bother me if they don't come true. I mostly just really enjoy life dreaming...maybe I should write. And then I can sell that writing...and start a commune. :D

You can do anything you put your mind to accomplish, but it will require a really huge effort to make it happen. Farm work is very boring and tedious at best, lonelyness creeps into the mix as well. Having no income makes it impossible to purchase the goods you will need just to survive. Check out ic.org for communities near you, just to get an idea of what is involved to live self-sufficently.
Don't give up the dream, just go slow and investigate it thoroughly.
Go camping in a national forest for a few weeks, nothing like a few weeks in the forest close to MotherEarth to let you feel and live the life.
    Best of luck....:)
