Hi everyone. I have been been very interested in Eastern European culture for some time now. I have Russian friends and I listen to lots of Russian music. At the moment I only speak English but I really want to learn how to speak and write in Russian. What is the best way to learn a new language??? should I learn the Cyrillic alphabet first? How should I go about doing this? I love to learn and have lots of spare time and am very determined when I have my heart set on something. so yea, teach meee.
Man I wish I could help you, I really want to learn Russian as well. Russian music is AMAZING I love it, and the literature is excellent as well. I'm gonna have to bum off the advice given here too I guess
Im thinking of doing a language course next year, but the courses I looked at only teach words and sentences, I really want to learn to write in Russian as well. Are audio tapes an effective way of learning? If anyone knows any good learning sites please post some links.

I love the Russian language. Cyrillic is very sexy. I would love to teach some insight to anyone whom is interested on learning. I never had a teacher, so my being self taught like many other things; I can show great studying techniques. If there are many whom can speak Russian, surely down the future we may benefit from a sub forum. Perhaps, with it would some posts provide translations for the students.
Found this very helpfu site http://www.russianlessons.net/ Also at the bottom of the wikipedia page for 'Russian Language' there is a 4g download from Princeton. Ive just started to learn Cyrillic, Once I start getting some basic phrases down I agree it would be good to talk/skype with other hipforumers so we can both learn.
Help me learn! I know so little, but I want to be able to speak it fluently. I really want to visit Russia one day. How is it there?
Hi, are these endings correct??? два стола тринадцать стулов три волка шестнадцать волков два пчелы девят пчел двадцать семь ножей двадцать три ножа четыре змей шестнадцать зме два музея десят музев
oh, i know some people who are learning russian.... we were having a conversation about it and one of em mentioned that putting the alphebet down phonetically was easier than going to cryillic (i think thats what its called) alphebet directly, instead learning how to spell and write properly after and learning to listen and speak first. i don't knoww if they meant personally or not but i'll look up some language sites for you. some of the ones i use in my turkish learning have links to learning russian on the page
I know Russian, too, but unfortunately, I don't know how to write in Cyrillic. I'd say I know Russian conversationally, not as advanced as English, but I'm still fluent, although I can be rusty if it's out of the blue. You guys should watch Soviet/Russian cartoons. They're amazing. YouTube has plenty of them subtitled, in fact.
Im a big animation fan, if you could give me some names of some Russian cartoons that would be great.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuzmultfilm It used to be the largest animation studio in Europe. Unlike what the article says, though, I think the studio has one division now, because they don't have the money and marketing for making new films. Hayao Miyazaki has mentioned being largely influenced by certain films and even had some released in Japan through his company with Japanese subtitles. Many consider Yuriy Norshteyn's Hedgehog in the Fog and Tale of Tales to be some of the greatest animated films of all time.
